Press Conference at 28th Street Elementary School, South Los Angeles
At this press conference, the Front Against the Raids will denounce the Los Angeles Unified School District for allowing the Los Angeles Police Department to use its school grounds to carry out their racist checkpoints. These "sobriety" checkpoints are being systematically used to attack undocumented communities. We will also denounce the LAPD for breaking their promise that they would no longer impound the cars of drivers (documented or undocumented) who were NOT intoxicated at "Sobriety Checkpoints".
Tuesday, September 4, 2007 5:30 P.M.
The central objective/demand will be:
1) To publicly denounce the LAUSD for collaborating with and for providing public school facilities to the LAPD to be used to carry out racist attacks on undocumented people.
2) To publicly denounce the LAPD for continuing to impound the cars of NON-intoxicated drivers at "sobriety checkpoints" AFTER they publicly stated that they would end that practice.
3) To publicly demand that LAUSD Superintendent David Brewer and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa release a written statement saying that LAUSD school grounds will no longer be used by Police forces to carry out ANY checkpoints.
