In this article in the Thursday, June 14 issue of the Mesa Republic, Tom Rawles who likes to pass himself off as a “Libertarian” voted for this definitely un-Libertarian photo radar speed trap.
"If we are losing money because the cameras are scaring the hell out of people at these intersections and people are slowing down and having less accidents good … If the idea was to make money I’d have voted against it."Tom Rawles is quoted as saying.
Mr. Tom Rawles I would like to inform you that REAL Libertarian’s don’t vote for speed traps PEROID!
The article leans toward saying that when the members of the Mesa City Council voted for this speed trap that thought it would be a gold mind in terms of revenue for the City of Mesa, but it has been a financial failure and the City of Mesa is losing $452,000 a year on the speed trap. The City of Mesa is considering shutting down the speed trap because it is not making money.
