How many wealthy businesses do you know of that profit off the backs of Central American workers back home? How many have stores well away from the fighting-and how many cops will be home in bed after being out in the street today?
LA COPS PAY TONIGHT!
It's just veiled language to advocate for property destruction. The argument is that the shop owners control the police, or something to that extent. Though this is true, structurally, because police spend most of their resources protecting property, it's not like the police take orders from shop owners.
It's not a good tactic or strategy in this situation. It would ony bring down more heat on immigrants, Latinos, and poor people. The real issue is how the police have tried to play the situation down there, on that day, and in general. They treated the neighborhood like a war zone. It was within Bratton's power to "bring the troops home" and de-escalate the situation, but, he didn't.
