Colleagues, Designers, and Friends,
The Graphic Imperative is coming to Los Angeles.
http://www.thegraphicimperative.org/
This is a major traveling exhibition of international posters for peace, social justice and the environment.
I’d love to put our heads together to see what kind of educational and community design-based events might be coordinated with this exhibition. Gallery Talks. Workshops. Performances. Graphic Interventions. Art Attacks... Maybe even a mini-conference on Design for the Public Good? Co-sponsorship opportunities are abundant.
As you know, I feel strongly about the responsibility that a designer has to greater society and their local communities. In our wealth-obsessed culture, and profession, this exhibition offers a nice counterbalance to our design communities.
Please respond to my email if you’d like to be part of a “working group” around these issues for this event.
Yours,
Jimmy

Hi, Jimmy:
I'm pleased to report that we're booking The Graphic Imperative for Nov/Dec 2007. I need to talk to my preparator this week about logistics, but dates are either October 20 – December 15 (8 week run); or October 27 thru December 15 (7 week run). If you have thoughts about what might work better (i.e., in terms of Art Dept activities, etc.) let me know - and I'll need to check for potential conflicts at the Luckman and around town.
I've asked Elizabeth if she has any education/outreach ideas - she has also offered to come out (at her own expense) if we want. As you're definitely more of an expert on this whole thing, I'd appreciate the chance to talk to you about possibilities/ideas stemming from the material in the show. Perhaps we can meet or at least talk again this week?
Thanks very much for bringing this to us, and for your continued consideration and assistance.
- Julie
