Popular Assembly of the Oaxacan People leader, Flavio Sosa, was
arrested yesterday evening by Mexican Federal Police. Sosa was arrested
on arson, kidnapping and robbery charges. Three other Asamblea Popular
de los Pueblos de Oaxaca, APPO, members were also arrested.
Federal police made the arrests after a news conference at Medellin 33
Street in the Colonia Roma section of Mexico City. Sosa left Oaxaca
after a warrant for his arrest was issued last week. He had planned on
beginning negotiations with Mexico’s new President Felipe Calderon,
hopefully to secure the release of fellow APPO members who have been
detained during months of civil unrest in the State of Oaxaca. |
