“Nature Takes Its Course” features the work of David Middlebrook and Michael Todd.
On view are three substantial sculptures of David Middlebrook. Combining several tons of basalt and bronze materials, his work reflects the struggle and transformation of organic and fossilized natural elements through a sculptural metamorphosis, creating tension and ultimate balance between Earth and our temporal existence.
Six large bronze sculptural works of Michael Todd complement the exhibit, continuing his in depth exploration of the “circle motif” for which he is well known. Creating spatial relationships through free form curves and interlocking planes makes the experience of viewing each work exciting and contemplative.
Both these distinguished artists have exhibited internationally at museums and foundations, and are part of renowned collections as well as high profile, site specific, public exhibition locations. The Art Art Project is proud to have them as part of our program, exemplifying our mission to bring museum quality sculptural exhibitions of contemporary work to the San Fernando Valley region.
The Art Art Project’s curator, Jeff Phillips (a CalArts Alumnus), who also curates the “Busy Canvas” program at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre at Barnsdall Art Park, initiated the “SCULPTURE AT THE PLAZA GARDENS” site. “Nature Takes Its Course” represents the fourth consecutive sculpture exhibition in what has become the San Fernando Valley’s only on-going, contemporary fine art, museum quality location as well as California’s largest rotating sculpture site. Featuring some of California’s leading sculpture artists, it has included in past exhibitions Betty Gold, Bret Price, Peter Shire and John Gilbert Luebtow.
Please list us in your contemporary fine art section and announce our next reception. The exhibition is open and free to the public between the hours of 8:00am to 8:00pm daily, and is available for previews and tours. Parking is available at the site and is free on weekends and evenings.
