Student Activists Demand that UC Apparel Get out of Sweatshops
"Sweat Stinks: Make BearWear FAIR"
WHAT: The Social Justice Alliance has been working with United Students against Sweatshops on a national campaign to ensure sweatshop free collegiate apparel. Seventeen universities have already adopted the proposed Designated Suppliers' Program and students across the UC system have been participating in actions at each campus pressuring each Chancellor to adopt the program which will ensure a living wage and freedom of association to workers in the factories that produce collegiate apparel. At UCLA, students have been demanding that Chancellor Albert Carnesale make a public endorsement and support the DSP at his meeting with President Dynes on May 3rd. There will be a rally and program including a speaker from Sweatshop Watch, spoken word artists, and student speakers.
WHEN: Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006 12:00-1:00
