It seems that supporters of anti-immigrant groups, LAPD spooks, and other anti-progressive haters have made it their business to continuously post or overly extend certain threads on the imc. In relation to the johnk post, I actually appreciate the interactive moderation since most of what the haters post is just blather, and really doesn't contribute anything to the discourse of free speech. You would think these people have better things to do than monitor the imc and respond everytime something is posted that they don't agree with. Surely they could find a better choir to preach to at the neo-con blogs and frontpagemag and other ilk and let us progressives engage each other with our social and moral truths. We're right, they're wrong, and enough said. This is not dictatorial; its the truth. There are plently of differences of opionion among the left and liberals (e.g. the posts that debate the virtures of libertarianism and anarchism), that to say that we must listen to people who still think the earth is flat is like forcing an adult to believe in santa claus. And we all know that big brother is definitely watching, but the trolls function in doing his work for him. Just another perspective. Thanks.
We monitor all your posts. We have quite a file on some of you. Stay in line and you will have nothing to worry about.
All of us Good Germans or Americans should just be quiet and hide under our beds until you FSs come for us one at a time. Good suggestion.
Fear is the keyword. The password and the final word.
Yep everyone is out to get you. Watch your back and clean your computers. The government can mine all the information off it and firewalls/ blockers don't work. Its to late for most of you. They can track your IP and capture where you been and what you have posted. They know everything.
Not everyone is "out to get us," but certainly some people are, or else we wouldn't be seeing this kind of stuff:

As for the government keeping track of us, unfortunately, it's all too true, and has been for quite some time.

It's really making me sad to see so many people (not just here; on other Indymedia sites too) respond to alternative points-of-view by calling for their censorship. I know that the poster here is mostly talking about the real "crap" that's just intended to make indymedia less-usable; but I've had some honest & sincere comments answered in the same way.
It's a shame that so many of the people who are supposed to be "progressive" are the ones who worship their ideology, like religious nuts, scorning anyone who dare question their holy dogma. So many "progressives" with closed-minds. I think their hearts were once in the right place once.

We actually call for their being published on somebody else's bandwidth, at somebody else's expense, not Indymedia's. Indymedia has no moral, legal or political obligation to provide a soapbox for these parasite freeloaders.

No, of course not. This website is LA IMC's private property, and LA IMC can decide what to do with it, and who to allow to post to it. I'd never suggest that you should be forced to associate with anyone you don't want to associate with; or let anyone into your group who you don't want there, for whatever reason -- I'm a capitalist, for christ's sake!
However, I can still say that I think it's sad that people would want to remove posts that offer an honest criticism, or that ask an honest question, just because they have a different point of view. Moral/legal/political obligations aside, that's just plain closed-minded.
I don't think that my posts have taken up too much of LA Indymedia's bandwidth. (But I'll type in all lowercase from now on, if that would help.) And I try to be as respectful as is called for, considering the fourm I'm posting to...yet some people would rather censor me than address my questions & criticisms. That's what's sad.

The videos you posted were around 10 megs. There were so many too. It made me reevaluate how we're doing podcasts. We may not have "open" podcasts in the future if large anti-IMC files start going onto the newswire.
(Or we'll have to somehow incorporate torrents into the system.)
People with large media files (over a meg or two) may want to consider uploading them to the radio-4-all server and linking to them
That server is set up just for that purpose - so that broad (pod) caster's can air the material
when the occasion arises that I feel compelled to upload media I squeeze it down as much as possible for reasonable quality - typically 1 to 2 megs, mp3PRO being a good choice since it's widely supported and gives extra quality on a PRO decoder (much like FM stereo - the extra quality is there if you desire it but can still listen to it regardless)
HE-AAC is the same but most people don't have decoders for it and it may not play properly (or at all) if you don't..
The internet archive would prob be the best choice for larger video files..
http://www.archive.org/
they utilize a server farm and have several terabytes of storage.
I grab old films and nature shows, etc off of it sometimes..
