The January 26 murder of David Schultz was different. Schultz was gunned down on the Foxcatcher Farms estate of John E. DuPont in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, outside Philadelphia. DuPont shot the 36-year-old former Olympic wrestler at point-blank range as Schultz's wife looked on, and then holed up in his mansion. For a few days the media was filled with sensational coverage of the killing and the siege of the eccentric multimillionaire. The ruling class was momentarily embarrassed.

Perfect example. That case made the news and stuck around the headlines for MONTHS. I believe there was even the requisite TV movie about it.

Simply because it was a rare crime.

Oh, that, and the fact that it involved to grown men who were still into wrestling.
