Hello,
I'm writing this message on behalf of the South Central Farmers today to thank those of you who have showed support and interest in our struggle.
Currently things have been quiet at the farm but we still have the threat and fear of physical eviction. At the moment we are looking to build a "phone tree" for that in the event of an action against us, we can call in friends to support us. However, you should know that there is a risk of being arrested. Our lawyers have informed us that they will be representing the farmers and supporters in case of such an event. I know for some of you it is not a risk you'd like to take but you can still support us by showing up at the farm as witnesses or making calls to the media so we have coverage. If you are interested in supporting us or would like to be a part of the supportcommitee, then I would like to invite you to our South Central Farmers Support Commitee meeting tomorrow, Wednsday September 14, 7:00pm at the farm(41st and Alameda). If you have any questions or would like to give us an endorsement through your organization, please contact me and I shall put the word through with our organizers.
Thank You.

An autonomous community garden represents a threat to the corporate sector. People working together on community land and sharing the fruits and veggies of their collective labor scares the capitalist ruling class. Corporate interests would prefer people working on a private corporate farm for below minimum wage and then charging them for pesticide soaked vegetables..
Developers play into this by targeting community gardens in the cities. This also happened in Sacramento during the biotech protest a few years ago. People stayed in the garden and got arrested, yet the garden was seized and converted into yuppie condominiums..
Even the Mexican government fears autonomy, in Morelos the military came in and busted heads after the village of Tlalnepantla declared itself autonomous. this region is home to the edible nopalito cactus..
"The town of Tlalnepantla, Morelos, Mexico, declared itself autonomous as the Zapatista communities of Chiapas, Mexico celebrated the 10 year anniversary of their uprising. On 1/14 nearly 1500 riot police armed with assault rifles stormed the town to evict the autonomous government from Tlalnepantla. Snipers and police gunmen filled the air with bullets, beat women and men over 80 years of age, and left two dead, many wounded and scores of people disappeared and as of yet unaccounted for. "

Community gardens are targets of the ruling class because realizing autonomy is only a step away. Once people realize that we can grow and provide our own nutritious food without interference from the ruling class, well, we just won't have much use for them anymore, will we??
Best wishes in holding on to the community garden!!
