Keep Poseidon Corporation out of our public ocean!

by John Earl Tuesday, Aug. 09, 2005 at 5:47 PM
jearl@ocorganizer.com Huntington Beach

The Poseidon Corporation, a multi-national water privatization company, wants to build a desal plant in Huntington Beach, but it isn't needed, will add to pollution and will give multi-national corporations a new foothold on the California coast under internatiional treaties.

Stop the take-over of our ocean by multi-national corporations!

Don’t let Poseidon Inc. be the god of our local ocean!

Say “No!” to industrial blight, destruction of ocean wildlife and increased ocean pollution!

Here’s what a coalition of leading Southern California environmentalist groups said about the Recirculated Environmental Impact Report for Poseidon Inc.’s proposed Huntington Beach desalination plant:

“Specifically, the REIR does not adequately demonstrate a need for the project; it fails to adequately analyze growth inducing impacts, environmental justice impact, impacts on marine life, or cumulative impacts of the proposed project. In addition, the REIR does not provide information on how private ownership of the desalination facility impacts the operation of the proposed facility and how the responsibilities of the private company will differ from that of a public owner.”

There will be a public study session on August 22, 4pm, at the Huntington Beach city hall. On September 6, at 6pm, the REIR will be considered for approval by the city council.

Please go to our web site at www.hbdesalfacts.org and learn more about this environmentally destructive corporate scam to privatize our publicly owned ocean water and sell it back to us. It’s unneeded, bad for the environment and bad for democracy. We have all the latest information about the project, including reports, news articles and more. After you get the facts, please act!
