SAN ANSELMO, CA -- A local anti-war activist has sparked heated
debate among the town's sharply divided citizens and its various
governing bodies. At issue is a huge sign bolted to the side of
anti-war activist attorney Ford Greene's law offices which contains
movable letters which daily contain messages most residents will
applaud, but many Republicans find offensive.
"Bush hates freedom. Gives Heil Burton our candy jar, uses
terror for psychopolitics' lies."
"Let the people know the facts, and the country will be safe.
- Abe Lincoln"
"To steal, lie, invade and torture is wrong. Get religion
out of the White House."
"Only an empty brain would count on a paperless voting
machine. Stop Democracy death."
On August 9'th at 8:00 p.m. San Anselmo's Town Council is
scheduled to hold a public hearing on the challenge by the anti-war
activist to the City's recent regulations which were passed
specifically to silence him -- and, when taken to its logical
conclusion, to silence anyone else who dares speak so loudly
in public what so many people are finding to be undeniable truths
thanks to recent disclosures contained within the so-called
"Downing Street Memos."
"If you oppose a citizen's rights today, your own rights will
be denied tomorrow," writes one supporter of Greene in a letter
to the City Council. "After looking over the messages, I can't
imagine how anyone could be opposed to them. Everything posted
on the sign has been undeniably true."
Opponents of the sign claim that the sign is an eye sore and a
driving hazard, even going so far as to claim that people on
bicycles some how face bodily harm because of the sign. The exact
mechanics of how the sign can cause traffic accidents while local
store advertisements along the street do not has yet to be
described by opponents.
What remains as the only reasonable complaint about the sign is
the messages writ upon it, messages that contain Truth that so
many Republican Bush supporters find embarrassingly undeniable.
If any are truly offensive, it is because the truth so very often
is offensive to those who have a vested interest in denying it.
Supporters have called upon San Francisco's anti-war activists to
stand and be heard by the Town Council, asking any American who
values our Constitutional right to freedom of speech to email the
Council and to participate in the meeting next week.
