New Radical Political Blog!

by Henry Garfield Tuesday, Jun. 28, 2005 at 3:08 AM

I’ve recently started a new blog dedicated to the description, explanation, and occasional mocking of radical politics in the United States.

I’ve recently started a new blog dedicated to the description, explanation, and occasional mocking of radical politics in the United States. All political viewpoints will be treated with the same level of (dis)respect. Log on and let me know what you think!

You don't know what you're writing about

by johnk Tuesday, Jun. 28, 2005 at 6:00 AM

You don't really understand what you're writing about.

You effectively equate PETA with the KKK. That's absurd.

Think about it. One groups says "treat animals like people" and the other group, "treat minorities like animals." Not equivalent. One might be funny. The other is not funny.

You express ignorance about Christian Anarchism, but it's a centuries old tradition. Look up Gerrard Winstanley. Look up Dorothy Day, Leo Tolstoy, or Jacques Ellul.

These "left" groups are relatively moderate, while the extreme right are pretty extreme.

Spend some time doing more research, and you'll definitely find other left groups that are a lot more fringe, and more interesting.

extremism

by Meyer London Tuesday, Jun. 28, 2005 at 2:28 PM

Estremism, like many other things, is in the eye of the beholder. In the United States, it is considered normal for hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of homeless people to roam the street. It is considered normal that medicine be run as a profit--making business, with drug companies raking in billions and doctors and hospital administrators driving around in $80,000 cars while people go without healtcare because of lack of money. It is considered normal that people be fired on the whim of a supervisor, insulted and demeaned by employers, or laid off to increase the profits of shareholders who may not have worked a day in their lives. It is considered normal that this country has the right to invade other nations because of unproven "threats" to its "security." It is considered normal that roads, bridges, and housing be allowed to deteriorate while huge office towers devoted to corporate business or banking rise constantly in our cities. It is considered normal that the sons and daughters of people like Bush and Kerry go to fine universities while those of the poor and the working class go into the Marine Corps and perhaps come back in a plastic bag. In some other parts of the world all this would be considered "extremism." Maybe you should think about that before throwing the word around.
