Bush paints himself as a Christian knight on a white horse, but fails to act to save this woman, even though he claims that her death would be murder. If he wanted to, he could order Federal police to raid the hospice (as they did the home containing Elian Gonzalez ) and transport her by a military medical evacutation plane to Washington, where she could be put in Walter Reed Hospital and have the food and water tube replaced. Neither Federal marshals nor the Navy doctors at Walter Reed would dare disobey a direct order from him, especially in view of the fact that the latter are officers sworn to obey the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. And there is not even a chance that Congress would impeach him. If this was one of his daughters, married to a husband who wanted her food and water tube removed, is there even the slightest doubt that this is the action that Bush would take?
He could use the excuse that the Supreme Court refused to do its duty and step into the case, so he had to step in. He could even have her transported to Rome or Ireland, where a Catholic hospital would agree to care for her and the Vatican would probably help to finance it.
Whatever one thinks about the Schiavo case, it is beyond dispute that Bush is a hypocrit.
Trying to blame Terri Shaivo on bush is pathetic. He's certainly not responsible.
The Elian Gonzalez intrusion by the government was truly despicable - you're right about that.
But this administration is rife with selective standards.
They tend to go on the attack to keep the wolves off their butts which is always hanging out in the breeze.
