Open Letter to the People of the United States

by From the March Coalition Committee, Quebec Ca Friday, Mar. 04, 2005 at 9:00 AM

We are seeking that you get your leaders to stop financing our sufferings, the demise of our efforts toward democracy and the atrocities being committed against our underprivileged citizens of Cité Soleil, La Saline,  Bélair etc.

We, Haitians and Friends of Democracy from  across the globe, are standing in solidarity with the vast majority of Haitians in Haiti that elected their much beloved leader, Jean Bertrand Aristide, in two historic instances to represent  and guide them through their difficult times. As you know, on February 29th 2004, President Aristide was forced out of power at gun-point by American Marines after thugs, made up of elements from the disbanded criminal Haitian army and paramilitary bandits (FRAPPH) had previously invaded the Haiti from the Dominican Republic, and killed a lot of innocent people. Instead of helping us rid ourselves from the terrorists, the Bush Administration showed its true colors: it got the constitutional president kidnapped and deported, the legitimate Prime Minister thrown in jail. It got them replaced by two of its puppets, Boniface and  Latortue, respectively, the latter having been parachuted from the United States.   Ever since this coup, the people of  Haiti has been living in terror. The Haitian Police and the so-called insurgents, who actually were mercenaries, have been killing, detaining illegally, harassing and raping our people under the cover of the UN peace-keepers, while the progressive Haitian Media was silenced and the International Medias became quiet all of a sudden. Anyone who was connected to the Fanmi Lavalas party of President Aristide is either dead, in jail, or in hiding.   We are engaging you, the American tax-payers, you, the sons and daughters of the most developed nation on earth, to see to it that the Bush government, that you have elected, is made held accountable for its illegal actions against Haiti and does not go about supporting terrorists, thus spreading miseries among less fortunate people, while claiming to be fighting terrorism.   We are asking all of you, peace-and justice-loving people to require an investigation into the role the IRI (the International Republican Institute) and the US Embassy had played and continue to play in that crisis. Please, intervene and save Haitian lives. Our people are being killed like animals. It is actually a genocide that is being committed against the poor in Haiti.   We are seeking that you get your leaders to stop financing our sufferings, the demise of our efforts toward democracy and the atrocities being committed against our underprivileged citizens of Cité Soleil, La Saline,  Bélair etc.   We also wish that you get the US Administration to require that all political prisoners be freed, including the constitutional PM Yvon Neptune, now on a hunger-strike, the 70 year-old folk-singer, Annette Auguste, alias So-Anne etc.   We, from the Coalition, remain confident that you, the people of America, will use your power to put an end to George W. Bush’s actions in Haiti.   From the Sons and Daughters of the freedom-fighters that produced the first Black Republic, who helped Simon Bolivar fight Spain and even shed their blood in your own war of  Independence at Savannah: GREETINGS! March Coalition Committee Montréal, Québec, Canada February 26, 2005
