Douglas Lenat and the Unibomber
Douglas Lenat is the president of a defense contracting corporation in
Austin, Texas. Cycorp, his corporation, does work for DARPA.
However, Cycorp also does business with the CIA and the NSA. Until the
Total Information Awareness project was
cancelled and re-parceled out under various covers, Cycorp was a major
recipient of funds for the TIA - a project tasked to create a large and
universal database, providing the Government the opportunity to track the
activities of Americans. Mr. DeVoy, a target of relentless online stalking
since working for Cycorp, played a leading role in exposing the
TIA to the public (listen
to radio interview). The TIA project was directed by John Poindexter,
of the Iran/Contra scandal fame. Poindexter was convicted of lying to
Congress under oath, a felony. Later, his conviction was dismissed, not on
the grounds that he did not lie to Congress, by on the grounds that he was given
immunity for the testimony. The judge's decision is highly questionable.
John Poindexter has also been implicated in the CIA/Drug ring alleged to have
operated to fund the Contras. The Government of Costa Rica is sufficiently
convinced of Poindexter's involvement that they have barred him from entering
Costa Rica for life.
For a period of time spanning more than a decade, the Unibomber
bombed various individuals he perceived to be technological leaders.
Theodore John Kaczynski was convicted for the crimes of the Unibomber in the
mid-1990s. After his arrest, the FBI informed Douglas Lenat the he had
been on the Unibomber's list. Several individuals were notified of their
disposition regarding Kaczynski's list. Lenat himself told the author of
this piece that he was on the Unibomber's list and that several technologists
consider it a mark of honor. Kaczynski is a self declared anarchist.
Anarchist Stephen DeVoy worked for Douglas B. Lenat as the leader of the
programming department. In the wake of 9/11, Lenat learned the DeVoy was
an anarchist and maintained several anarchist websites. Douglas Lenat
called Mr. DeVoy into his office to question him about his political
beliefs. DeVoy confirmed that he was an anarchist. Mr. Lenat then
told Mr. DeVoy that he considered Anarchism to be a very dangerous political
philosophy. Following this event, three more managers at Cycorp harassed
Mr. DeVoy for being an anarchist. The topic came up in management meetings
where Mr. DeVoy was present. Upper level manager, Michael Whitbrock,
stated that Mr. Lenat could fire Mr. DeVoy for being an anarchist because being
an anarchist was a choice.
During this period of time, Mr. DeVoy began to receive anonymous online death
threat threats. The online terrorists announced that he would soon be
fired from his job for being an anarchist. Shortly thereafter he was fired
from his job. The online harassment continues today. Additional
stalking has occurred at political events and has been documented.
Information held only by Cycorp has found its way into the hands of the
harassment group. The harassment group claims to have connections to the
U.S. Government and access to U.S. Government databases. The leader of the
harassment group has targeted other anarchists with websites. One of these
is Sherman Austin of Raise The Fist. The harassment group takes credit for
turning him into the FBI and having him arrested and jailed.
Recently, Mr. DeVoy opened a website to
provide materials to anarchist parents. Mr. DeVoy is a parent himself
and wanted a collection of stories that he could share with his child.
Since few anarchist children stories were available, Mr. DeVoy began writing
them himself and publishing them on the website.
Immediately following the publication of these stories, the leader of the
harassment group became incensed and engaged in an online campaign to harass any
website publishing the stories. He has declared his belief that children
should not be taught about anarchism and that the children of anarchists should
be taken away from them by the state. He
became so upset about the idea of children learning about anarchism that he
personally called the host of the website and promises that it will be shut down
by Friday of this week. There is no illegal content on the
website. In fact, the website is a philosophy website, not a political
website.
I believe that the parallels between Mr. Lenat and the harassment
organization cannot be ignored. I ask anyone in the press interested in
this story to investigate it.
