Bob Perry builds and sells homes in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and the Rio Grande Valley. In each of these cities, Mr. Perry has his signs placed on public property. Many homebuilders do this. It is littering. There is an unwritten agreement between homebuilders and city governments that, if the signs are placed on Saturdays and picked up on Sundays, they will not be confiscated. While deployed, signs are under no ownership, are considered litter, and any citizen may remove or alter them.
In this hot election season, many Perry Homes signs are being changed into "Kerry '04" signs. Apparently, citizens are painting a "K" over the "P" and superimposing "04" over the word "Homes". Signs are showing up everywhere. The first picture shows a Kerry 04 sign placed at the Houston Chronicle headquarters. Next to it is a reference image of an untouched Perry Homes sign.
There is a possibility that as Perry Homes signs are distributed throughout Houston and other Texas cities, many more will be changed into Kerry '04 signs.
Time will tell if this phenomenon grows to become a statewide grassroots act of poetic justice.
