A MOM'S FYI:

THE OCTOBER SURPRISE? Scaring Voters Sh*tless!

October 24, 2004

*****

The run-up to the war on Iraq brought the orange-alerted, panicked American public a plethora of 'fright-night' laden messages by George Bush & Co:

terrorists

9/11

attack

threat

weapons of mass destruction

nuclear

***

Even before it had begun, the war had seemingly become reality.....

***

The run-up to the war on elections brings the orange-alerted, panicked American voters and, indeed, the world at large, an identical plethora of 'fright-night' laden messages by

George Bush & Co.

And the war drum beat grows decidedly louder as November 2 draws nigh....

war....tap, tap, tap....

terror....tap, tap, tap....

9/11....tap, tap, tap...

fear....bam, bam, bam....

wmd...crash, crash, crash

nuclear...kaboom, boom, boom....

October Surprise?....I suggest it's among us now.

It is permeating the airwaves from FOX News to C-Span.

Karl Rove is a magnificent manipulator!

His terrorist mantra has the power to win votes.

But will his messengers succeed?

"I have a record in office, as well. And all Americans have seen that record. September the 4th*, 2001, I stood in the ruins of the

Twin Towers. It's a day I will never forget."

Interview With Aiko Doden of NHK TV’s “World Network”

Secretary Colin L. Powell

Tokyo, Japan

October 24, 2004

MS. DODEN: On the issue of war and terrorism, you have said that there has not been an attack in the U.S. in three years, and that should be good news. But people round the world might think otherwise. The more aggressive the U.S. is in pursuing its war in terrorism outside of U.S. soil, the more vulnerable people outside of the U.S. become, the less safer the world becomes. Incidents in Madrid and Turkey might provide us with illustrative examples. Would you still contend that the world is safer?

SECRETARY POWELL: The world is safer, but it's not safe. The fact that we have not had a terrorist incident in the last three years does not mean that terrorists have not tried or don't want to strike the United States. I'm sure they do.

We have seen terrorist activity in Madrid. we have seen terrorist activity in Russia, that terrible incident at the school in Beslan. We've seen it in Indonesia. we've seen it around the world. The only answer to this is for all of us to work together to defeat terrorism of any form, wherever it is. It is not the United States that has made the world more vulnerable, it's terrorists who have made the world more vulnerable, it is terrorists who are doing this. And the United States is willing to play a leadership role with all the civilized nations of the world to say to terrorists and to the world, ‘This kind of activity is not acceptable. The murder of innocent people, for whatever goal, is not acceptable. And we will fight you. We will fight Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. we'll fight the Taliban. we'll fight the terrorists in Iraq. we'll fight the terrorists who perpetrated the murder of innocent people at Beslan or in Madrid.’

This is something the world has to come together on, with our military forces, our legal efforts, our law enforcement efforts, all of this has to come together, our intelligence efforts, all of this has to come together, to defeat this threat to the civilized world.

President George W. Bush

Radio Address of the President to the Nation

October 23, 2004

....In the three years since September the 11th attacks, our government has acted decisively to protect the homeland....

..... We are transforming the FBI into an agency whose primary focus is stopping terrorism. We have established the Terrorist Threat Integration Center so we can bring together all the available intelligence on terrorist threats in one place.....

Since September the 11th, 2001, more than three-quarters of al Qaeda's key members and associates have been killed, captured, or detained. The rest of them know we will hunt them down.

America faces a grave threat, and our government is doing everything in its power to confront and defeat that threat. We're making progress in protecting our homeland, and progress against the terrorists who seek to harm our nation. And by staying focused and determined, we will prevail.

Thank you for listening.

President George W. Bush

Victory 2004 Rally, Jacksonville Florida

October 23, 2004

.....this is the first presidential election since September the 11th, 2001. Americans will go to the polls in a time of war and ongoing threats unlike any we have faced before. The terrorists who killed thousands of innocent people are still dangerous. They are determined to strike us again. The outcome of this election will set the direction of the war against terror. I believe the most solemn duty of the American President is to protect the American people. (Applause.) If America shows uncertainty or weakness in this decade, the world will drift toward tragedy.

Vice President Dick Cheney

Crown Plaza Hotel

Cedar Rapids, Iowa

October 23, 2004

THE VICE PRESIDENT: And of all of this, of course, stems from the developments that led up to and subsequently have developed from the events of 9/11, when we recognized, I think everybody recognized after 9/11 that, in fact, we were faced with a very serious threat, the threat that on 9/11 led to the worst attack ever on U.S. soil. We lost more lives that day than we lost at Pearl Harbor.

And the events that occurred there forced us to think anew about the kind of threat we're faced with today, the possibility of a handful of terrorists coming into the United States as they did for the 9/11 attack, armed with knives and boarding passes, able ultimately to kill nearly 3,000 of our fellow citizens in New York, Washington and, of course, in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where Flight United 93 went in.

The big threat we face now, today, is the possibility of terrorists coming into the United States equipped with deadlier weapons than have ever before been used against us, terrorists who are able to get their hands on chemical weapons or a biological agent of some kind, or even a nuclear weapon. That's the worst possible scenario we can contemplate at this point, and that's sort of the ultimate threat that we have to face up to when we think about the threat in the years ahead.

Remarks by First Lady Laura Bush

West Allis, Wisconsin

October 22, 2004

LAURA BUSH: As we do the hard work of confronting terror, we can be proud that 50 million more men, women and children now have the chance to live in freedom thanks to the United States of America and our allies. America's Greatest Generation liberated the people of Europe and then after World War II helped citizens in Germany and Japan rebuild their societies. At the time, people said Japan will never be a democracy; there's no reason for Americans to work to try to help them build a democracy. Today, Prime Minister Koizumi is one of our closest friends. Sixty years after World War II, the United States and Japan are allies. (Applause.)

(Laura's soft, fluffy, motherly bent on the war on terror is quite comforting, isn't it?)

Secretary Rumsfeld Radio Interview with Bob Guthrie

WOAI-AM Radio, San Antonio, Texas

October 20, 2004

Q: Are equipment problems in the field in Iraq today that serious and if they’re not all up to snuff, what’s being done to resolve them?

RUMSFELD: Well, I read Gen. Sanchez’s letter and I’m not sure I would characterize it quite the way you did, but the reality is that when the United States was hit on September 11th and 3,000 people were killed, we had an armed forces that we had and we went to war with what we had. We didn’t have a leisurely time to decide that, my goodness, it’s a new period. It’s the 21st century and we now are suddenly faced with a global war on terror. We had the Army we had and we went about our business. And, in my view, the men and women in the Armed Services have done a superb job.

(Reread the question, if you skipped it...)

Johnstown, Pennsylvania

October 18, 2004

And there are so many issues that I know are important to you and are important to me. But I got to tell you, if I were going to say what it is that compels me most, it is the safety and security of our country. (Applause.) I've got children, I've got grandchildren, and I got to tell you, when I think about this election, I think to myself, you know, the terrorists will try to come and get us again -- we all know they're going to try that.

(We ALL know, Lynne? Really....)

President's Remarks on Homeland Security in New Jersey

Remarks by the President in Burlington County, New Jersey

Evesham Recreation Center

Marlton, New Jersey

October 18, 2004

THE PRESIDENT: September the 11th, 2001 changed all that. We realized that the apparent security of the 1990s was an illusion.

The people of New Jersey were among the first to understand how the world changed. On September the 11th, from places like Hoboken and Jersey City, you could look across the Hudson River and see the Twin Towers burning. We will never forget that day, and we will never forget our duty to defend America. (Applause.)

Out of the horror of that day we also saw good emerge. America has seen a new generation of heroes -- police, firefighters, members of the military. (Applause.)

....September the 11th also changed the way we should look at national security. But not everyone realizes it. The choice we face in this election, the first presidential election since September the 11th, is how our nation will defeat this threat. Will we stay on the offensive against those who want to attack us --

AUDIENCE: Yes!

THE PRESIDENT: -- ......I have a record in office, as well. And all Americans have seen that record. September the 4th, 2001, I stood in the ruins of the Twin Towers. It's a day I will never forget.

"Courage and Freedom": Address at Warsaw University

Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz

Warsaw, Poland

October 5, 2004

WOLFOWITZ: Many people hoped that the Cold War’s end would bring a long period of unbroken peace. But September 11, 2001 gave us another rude awakening. We were face to face once again with the ugly reality that evil didn’t simply disappear with the demise of Hitler and Stalin. The cold-blooded murder of 3,000 innocent souls—from America and Poland and many other countries—on that September day once again put us in the middle of a war that we didn’t look for. And once again, the target is freedom itself.

Bush Receives Endorsement From Iran

by Ali Akbar Dareini, Associated Press Writer

TEHRAN, Iran - The head of Iran's security council said on Tuesday the re-election of President Bush (news - web sites) was in Tehran's best interests, despite the administration's axis of evil label, accusations that Iran harbors al-Qaida terrorists and threats of sanctions over the country's nuclear ambitions.

"We should not forget that most sanctions and economic pressures were imposed on Iran during the time of Clinton," Rowhani said of the former Democratic president. "And we should not forget that during Bush's era — despite his hard-line and baseless rhetoric against Iran — he didn't take, in practical terms, any dangerous action against Iran."

Though Iran generally does not publicly wade into U.S. presidential politics, it has a history of preferring Republicans over Democrats, who tend to press human rights issues.

"We do not desire to see Democrats take over," Rowhani said when asked if Iran was supporting Kerry against Bush....

Top 11 reasons Iran endorsed Dubya for President.

1. Clinton-era sanctions more onerous than Bush-era name-calling.

2. Even "Moo-lahs" love Halliburton kick-backs!

3. If there's one thing all religious fundamentalists can agree on, it's the acceleration of Armageddon.

4. Question: If you were choosing a mortal enemy, would you choose a hockey player or a cheerleader?

5. Wants to get back in the "arms-for-hostages" business.

6. Felt sorry for him in the debates.

7. Legally obligated by the fine print in the October 1980 deal George Herbert Walker Bush negotiated in Paris.

8. Regional rivals Iraq on their western border, and Afghanistan on their eastern border, no longer pose a military threat, permitting (and encouraging) Iran to devote resources to nuclear ambitions.

9. Paranoia: Kerry, a decorated combat veteran, could kite-surf, undetected by Iranian radar, into the heart of Tehran. Bush, the occasional-guardsman, likely to alert security forces en route by crashing his car (at least 4 times), falling-off his bicycle (twice this year!), or upending his Segway scooter.

10. Sinclair Broadcasting has a Tehran affiliate.

11. Wants to see how the United States likes being the world's number one pariah.
