Sorry to post an AP story of this important event, but apparently no IMC has covered it yet. How about covering this?

Associated Press
SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Veteran Southern California peace activist Jerry Rubin is launching a monthlong hunger strike as part of an attempt to persuade Ralph Nader to abandon his 2004 presidential campaign.
Rubin was to officially begin his fast at noon Saturday on Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade, where he has been a fixture over the years lobbying for world peace, against war toys and in support of numerous other causes.
"I know Ralph Nader and I don't think he's doing the right thing," Rubin said Saturday, adding the consumer advocate's campaign is dividing the progressive political movement.
"Greens, progressives and Democrats are more divided now than they were in 2000 because of him," Rubin said.
The 60-year-old activist hopes his liquid-only fast will persuade Nader to meet with him and perhaps agree to abandon his candidacy in favor of organizing an "accountability coalition" that would press the presidential candidate who wins in November to work more seriously for peace.
He said he plans to consume only herbal tea and juice until Oct. 9 and, after that, only water until Nov. 2 if Nader doesn't take a meeting with him.
Rubin, who has launched several such fasts over the years, collapsed in 1997 after fasting for 26 days in an effort to persuade SKG Dreamworks to abandon plans to relocate its headquarters in an area activists consider environmentally fragile.
Dreamworks eventually abandoned the planned move, saying it couldn't reach a satisfactory financial agreement to build in the Playa Vista wetlands area.

[starving oneself to preserve the two party system in America
it's hard to believe that Jerry Rubin is actually a veteran peace activist if he has fallen so far under the spell of the Democratic Party cult
as someone who voted for Nader in 2000, and recently changed my registration from Democrat to Decline to State, I can most emphatically say that Ralph Nader is NOT the reason that progressives and liberals are so divided today
instead, in my instance, it's because I have become increasingly frustrated with the control that organizations like the Democratic Leadership Council have over the domestic and foreign policy positions of the Part
it's also because the party has become addicted to conspiracy theories (Nader cost Gore the 2000 election . . . the Gallup poll is rigged to support vote fraud to enable Bush to win the election . . . ) to try to energize voters otherwise unexcited by its generational rightward drift
finally, it's because Democrats are only supposed to vote for Democrats, except when white liberals are terrified that California would end up with its first Latino governor, and then, it's OK to sit on the sidelines, or even vote for Schwarzenegger, as Attorney General Bill Lockyer did, to prevent Cruz Bustamonte from becoming governor
but, you can't break ranks on your own (like, horror of horrors, supporting Camejo for Governor, or Nader for President), breaking ranks for self-aggrandizement is a decision made from the top down, and NEVER done to support individuals to the left of the party, so don't get any ideas that anyone else is supposed to do anything other than follow orders
amazing, that of all the things that Rubin could engage in a hunger strike about, the occupations in Iraq and Palestine, the expansion of the prison/industrial complex, the increase in poverty globally as a result of IMF/World Bank globalization policies or even the craziness of Bush himself. . . he chooses this!
someone needs to get Rubin up to date: it's now OK to attack Bush instead of Nader, as the old strategy of spending more time attacking those to their left, like Nader, instead of Bush, at the direction of the DLC and its corporate affiliated lobbyists and consultants, has been temporarily suspended
truly sad, to see someone publicly humiliate themselves like this, unless the whole thing is an attempt to shake the money tree, hustling money from liberals the way Ann Coulter and Dr. Laura do with conservatives
if so, GO! JERRY GO!

It seems a guy like Jerry Rubin can do a hunger strike over anything these days. God, I can't wait until Rubin finally goes too far and drops dead of malnutrition. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll do it during his latest hunger strike. (Or should I say, "temper tantrum?") God, what a cry-baby.

If this bendeho wasn't so pathetic it would almost be funny. Lest we forget, so called enviro candidate Al Gore was deep into the Occidental Oil Cartel and eager to perpetuate slaughter against the indigenous peoples of Columbia and California while making money from his book "Earth in the Balance"..
Guess what suprises Kerry has in store? MORE WAR!!!
What a sick fucking joke the Demoncrats are..
from corpwatch;
by Bill Mesler, Special to CorpWatch August 29th, 2000
RELATED STORY
Integrity in the Balance Bill Mesler reports on Gore's broken promises on a toxic Ohio waste incinerator.
For thousands of years, the Kitanemuk Indians made their home in the Elk Hills of central California. Come February 2001, the last of the 100 burial grounds, holy places and other archaeological sites of the Kitanemuks will be obliterated by the oil drilling of Occidental Petroleum Company. Oxy's plans will "destroy forever the evidence that we once existed on this land," according to Dee Dominguez, a Kitanemuk whose great grandfather was a signatory to the 1851 treaty that surrendered the Elk Hills.
Occidental's planned drilling of the Elk Hills doesn't only threaten the memory of the Kitanemuk. Environmentalists say a rare species of fox, lizard and the kangaroo rat would also be threatened by Oxy's plans. A lawsuit has been filed under the Endangered Species Act. But none of that has given pause to Occidental or the politician who helped engineer the sale of the drilling rights to the federally-owned Elk Hills. That politician is Al Gore.
Gore recommended that the Elk Hills be sold as part of his 1995 "Reinventing Government" National Performance Review program. Gore-confidant (and former campaign manager) Tony Cohelo served on the board of directors of the private company hired to assess the sale's environmental consequences. The sale was a windfall for Oxy. Within weeks of the announced purchase Occidental stock rose ten percent.
That was good news for Gore. Despite controversy over Dick Cheney's plans to keep stock options if elected, most Americans don't know that we already have a vice president with oil company stocks. Before the Elk Hills sale, Al Gore controlled between $250,000-$500,000 of Occidental stock (he is executor of a trust that he says goes only to his mother, but will revert to him upon her death). After the sale, Gore began disclosing between $500,000 and $1 million of his significantly more valuable stock.
Nowhere is Al Gore's environmental hypocrisy more glaring than when it comes to his relationship with Occidental. While on the one hand talking tough about his "big oil" opponents and waxing poetic about indigenous peoples in his 1992 book "Earth in the Balance," the Elk Hills sale and other deals show that money has always been more important to Al Gore than ideals.
From California to Colombia: Native Lands Threatened
The Kitanemuk are not the only indigenous group threatened by Occidental's oil operations. The 5000-member strong U'wa of northeastern Colombia, have threatened mass suicide if Oxy proceeds with plans to begin drilling oil on their ancestral homeland. The U'wa, who retain their language and traditions, understand the introduction of oil would devastate their culture. They also understand that oil facilities would put them in the midst of Colombia's fierce civil war.
"To the U'wa, oil equals violence," explains Danny Kennedy, director of the Berkeley, California-based Project Underground, which has helped wage an international campaign of support for the U'wa. Oil installations are a favorite target of leftist guerillas at war with the Colombian government. After guerillas bomb the installations, the army occupies the area. "Then comes the paramilitary, who are basically soldiers with hoods on at night. Then comes the terror campaign" says Kennedy. The U'wa, who have little contact with either the government or the guerillas, would end up becoming targets.
The U'wa have attracted international sympathy, but their efforts to enlist the support of Occidental's most famous shareholder -- Al Gore -- have come to naught. Gore publicly met the outcry over the U'wa with silence. The Vice President even refused a request by a Democratic member of Congress that he meet with an U'wa representative who had traveled to Washington to see him.
Meanwhile, Occidental pressed for the massive military aide package for Colombia the administration recently pushed through Congress. Occidental Vice President Lawrence Mirage testified before Congress in favor of the military aide package during the February deliberations, throwing in that those opposed to Occidental's drilling were a bunch of "extremists."

I WANT TO ORGANIZE AN EAT-IN FOR NADER AROUND JERRY RUBIN'S "PEACE" TABLE EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT ON THE PROMANADE. Mr. Jerry "peace activist" Rubin had the real Jerry Rubin not died he most certainly would have slapped the shit out of you. You are a disgrace to the movement. You sold out so quickly to the Kerry camp there is no way you should be trusted to carry our message. Hell for all we now know about you you could be an agent. It really wouldn't surprise me!

Whoa! that last post was nearly duplicate to one i read on freerepublic. Guess it must be goin' around: mindless ranting knows no ideology. Did it ever occur to you armchair anarchists that real life fascist neo-cons are poised to turn your comfy nation into a total police state where this site and your personal freedom will be a fond memory? No Dem here, no fan of Kerry or Nader. None of that matters when your very survival is at stake. You hold your fucking nose and make the sanest choice for the moment so you can live to fight another day. Your privilege betrays your postion. Think pre-war Germany. Not only that, you bash some poor chump who believes he'sdoing the right thing and making some form of personal sacrafice. What the fuck have YOU done lately to try and stop the growing tide of fascism?

Waking The Left Up To Skull And Bones
The world is still here, so I can continue to wonder about how my friends, who once agonized about having to vote for John Kerry, and are now happy about voting for him. I think when you have the need to be on the winning side against Bush; you can even convince yourself that you really like him. Kerry supported the war in Iraq, along with NAFTA, GATT, the WTO, the Patriot Act, Homeland Security, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and so on and so forth. Kerry is called a liberal as Clinton was, but really he follows the Democratic Leadership Council line. That line was once called Republican. It will be a heavy price to pay when John Kerry's version of anybody but Bush, turns out to be surprisingly close to the original. I will assume that you are really knowledgeable about the issues. I am confused as to how are you not terribly concerned about the fact that both George W. Bush and John F. Kerry are blood brothers in the most exclusive secret society? The Skull and Bones Society admits only fifteen new members each year. So if you figure that the average new member is 21 years old when tapped there can't even be as many as 800 living members in the world. What is the population of the United States now? According to the Census Bureau PopClock at http://www.census.gov/main/www/popclock.html the current population is 294,423,981. Do you really think that the odds would point to the two presidential candidates coming from the same secret society with not even 800 living members? When I talk to people about this I always ask them how much they really know about the Skull and Bones Society? They usually say not that much. Most people that I know are left of center and so am I. But being left of center didn't stop me from reading "Fleshing Out Skull and Bones: Investigation Into America's Most Powerful Secret Societies by Antony Sutton, Howard Altman, Kris Milligan, Dr Ralph Bunch, Anton Chaitkin & Webster Griffin Tarpley, Edited by Kris Milligan. Published 2003. http://www.fleshingoutskullandbones.com/ Last night Norman "Nobody Sommer called me. He is the founder and president of the Umbrella Movement to Counteract the Right. Its web site is www.therightiswrong.us and you might see why what he has to say interests me (at least Alan Colmes credited me when he lifted my name). Sommer claims he got the phrase from his granddaughter and it was all innocent. As Sommer pitched me to get involved with his movement, I got into conversation with him about Kerry. Sommer is an erudite, politically astute gentleman. But when I asked him how much he knew about the Skull and Bones society, he mentioned that he didn't know much. I'm going to send him a copy of Milligan's book. When it comes to understanding who the powers-that-be are and what they do, I have found much valuable information from the work of Alex Jones. Jones uncovers plenty. He filmed inside the Bohemian Grove compound showing all the world what depravity goes on there. I would recommend going to Alex Jones two websites www.infowars.com and www.prisonplanet.com to witness for yourself what Jones make available to you. I would also suggest seeing "American Dictators by Alex Jones and Kevin Booth. In this videotape Jones makes a strong argument that we are a lot further along the road to fascism than most of us want to admit. Alex Jones is a broadcaster out of Austin, Texas. I'm afraid that too many people on the left are unable to hear what Jones is telling them. Alex Jones is a 2nd Amendment, anti-abortion, United Nations-fearing, Christian patriot. He also is unrelenting in his quest for the truth about those who wish to enslave us. Jones's personal beliefs didn't stop Cynthia McKinney from respecting him for the truth that he has unearthed, and it doesn't stop me, either. I would submit to you that requiring people to pass litmus tests before we allow them to share truth with us, is a true failing of much of the left. I remember when "George Bush: The Unauthorized Biography by Webster G. Tarpley and Anton Chaitkin was originally published, many people on the left doubted the work or ignored it completely because of the authors rumored association with Lyndon Larouche. How foolish. Tarpley and Chaitkin's work was groundbreaking. You can check it out for yourself. It is available for free on the web at http://www.tarpley.net/bushb.htm and by the way Lyndon Larouche is supporting Kerry. I haven't really changed, in the sense that I still feel much more comfortable with sources from the left. But what am I supposed to do when Noam Chomsky, Ronnie Dugger, Barbara Ehrenreich, Richard Falk, Jim Hightower, Saul Landau, Michael Lerner, Manning Marable, Robert McChesney, Marcus Raskin, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Studs Terkel, Harvey Wasserman, and Howard Zinn have all joined the Kerry for President movement? I have been predicting that Kerry would be the next president for some time. Ever since Kerry joined with the leadership of the Democratic and Republican parties, Michael Moore and Al Sharpton to stop the Howard Dean juggernaut, it has been clear to me that Kerry was the chosen one. The race will stay nip and tuck until Election Day. When Kerry wins much of the left will be thrilled. Celebration will take the place of organization for some time. The Kerry honeymoon will give the powers-that-be some time to further the agenda. I am afraid that by the time the left wakes up as to whom Kerry really is, the war will be widened and the reinstitution of the draft will be in place. What is our alternative? I have looked far and wide for a strategy that doesn't lead to the coronation of Kerry or Bush. Unfortunately, all I can come up with is a first step. It is time to draw a line in the sand. No more pro-war candidates. No votes for evil even lesser ones. It is time take a stand against the powers-that-be, let them know that we are no longer fooled; we know who they are and what they are doing. Join me in the ultimate protest vote on November 2nd and vote for yourself. People laugh when I tell them that. But I'm not kidding. When you vote for evil it is a Faustian deal. You may tell yourself it is benign but it is truly is not. The reason that John Kerry has not repudiated Skull and Bones, is a simple one, he doesn't want to do so, and even if he did, he couldn't and still be president. http://www.rightiswrong.com/leftout.php

The man has by innuendo, trashed Nader without giving any concrete reasons that I have heard. Instead he support liberitarian ideals which to me is just Republicanism without ANY regulation or constraints ( which he accuses of the EVIL of socialism) from a government that should be directed by popular referendum. He does a great deal of information work but his Christian fundamentalist agenda is also worrisome. Perhaps he may be catering to the religious right in order to turn them into a truth they are more likely to accept from their own ideology. I have mixed feelings about him and a suspicion that he might be another mole for the people he says he is in conflict with. IMOHO

It'll be interesting to see, should Kerry win, if the Indymedia types are as intolerant of him and the Dems as they are currently with Bush. My guess is "No". I believe most of you are just far-left Dems, not really the revolutionaries/annarchists you'd like to make yourself out to be. My guess is Dems get a free ride here and you'll still be complaining more about the Repub's.

I aint no anarchist for sure but I don't support any dickweed that is too much of a puss to stand up for the Constitution. Are all you republicans this stupid as being unable to understand anything outside of your own brainwashing? News to you. Most of us didn't like Clinton either and personally I believe he should stand trial also for treason and murder.

Like I said, you won't critize him as much. You're a closet Dem. It's OK to admit it. It was obvious for a long time now.
Just remember, should kerry be in office, we want to see just as many anti-war demonstrations and just as good of a turnout as during the Bush years. Also if there are workers strikes, we want you to blame kerry. You know, everything you blamed Bush for the last 4 years, you'll need to equally blame kerry, or you'll be showing your ass just a little to much and me and my RW buddies will have to come here and make you very uncomfortable pointing it out.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that and Bush wins. But, if he doesn't, you'll need to do as I say.
Think you can follow the bouncing ball like you've been taught there, kfc?
