replacementsneeded@hotmail.com

We are posting these posters around recruiter offices, schools, low income housing units, and any other place that those most susceptible to recruiters are most heavilly concentrated. We are hoping to bring awareness to the true costs of war, the lives of those who die daily fighting in it. Please help us, we make new posters weekly, and a full set can be found at http://replacementsneeded.tripod.com/ or email us at replacementsneeded@hotmail.com to get added to the mailing list.

Remember we are all in this together.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions please feel free to contact us. We encourage the distribution of these posters, and are more than happy to hear reports of where they are going up, or being seen. At present we have them going to multiple universities and colleges including Berkeley (thanx Mario),and The University of Alaska, Evergreen State College, The University of Washington, Ithaca University, Princeton University, Columbia University, Hawaii Pacific University, Quincy University, Tulane University, amongst others, cities such as Boston, Austin, Chicago, San Diego, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Denver, St Louis, New York amongst others, multiple military instillations throughout the world thanks to our troops who serve our country and to such states as California, Minnesota, Missouri, Texas (thanx John you seem to really be pissing off them there Texans; Yee Haw!), Massachusetts, Colorado, Utah and even to such far off places as China, Australia, Mexico and Nicaragua, Venezuela, The Yucatan, Norway, Egypt, Greece and Iraq.

The posters will be part of an upcoming exhibit at The Hague in 2005-2006; the artist Selma Waldman is responsible for their inclusion. We have heard that they are getting faxed to the White House on a weekly basis also. It would seem that love them, or hate them the posters are having an impact. If you or your group wishes to utilize these posters we would be glad to add you to the mailing list, or you can copy them from the site. Remember; we are all in this together.

“Replacements Needed” will continue to make posters for as long as American soldiers are dying in a pre-emptive, and unprovoked war in a country that DID NOT ATTACK US. Our focus is not upon any one political or ideological train of thought instead we are focused on the true costs of war, the people who die fighting in it. Help us spread the posters, or better yet start making your own posters, and together we will let those in power know that we are not going to sit on the sidelines while good people die for bad policies.

“Replacements Needed” does not condone violations of any local, county, state, or federal ordnances that may inhibit posters, or flyers being placed upon phone polls, phone booths, mail boxes, newspaper boxes or containers or any other smooth, flat surfaces. We are interested in the spread of knowledge, and one of our primary concerns is that everyone has access to a good recipe for Wheat Paste. Thus we hope that you find the following recipe helpful, and informative.

Wheat paste

Prepare 1 cup (2.4 dl) of very hot water. Make a thin mixture of 3 tablespoons (45 ml) of white flour and cold water. Pour the cold mixture slowly into the hot water while stirring constantly. I cannot emphasize the importance of stirring enough. Yes, it is tiring, but don't stop. Bring to a boil. When it thickens, allow to cool. Smear on like any other glue. For slightly better strength, add 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of sugar after the glue is thickened. After using a portion, reheat the remaining in a covered jar or container to sterilize it for storage or keep refrigerated. If wheat flour is not available, other flours will work.

Wheat paste is the best way to put up posters. If you have a message that you don't want taken down, wheat paste it!!! It may take you a few tries to get just the right mixture, but once you do, it is rumored to be way better than Super Glue.

A Note Concerning Wheat Paste: Wheat paste is an environmentally friendly product. It does not contain petroleum products, harmful chemicals or carcinogenic materials. It may be used by anyone so inclined with few if any side effects. Wheat paste is rumored to be an extremely potent and long lasting glue like substance that will decompose naturally leaving behind no harmful bi-products. Those who would argue that wheat paste is “permanent” do not recall kindergarten and the fact that “hot water” is all that is needed to remove it or dilute it. In fact any water will serve the same purpose, but hot works better. In fact a nursery rhyme concerning wheat paste goes as such:

“You can use it on a house. You can use it on a mouse.

You can use it on some stairs, it even works on chairs.

You can use it on glass you can even smear it on your ass.

It works as well on cars as it does upon bars.

You can use it upon a fence all it needs is a hot rinse.

You can spread it in a rush if you use a wide brush.

You can use it in the park but it works best after dark.

It is good to share you can even use it after drinking beer.

You can use it in the halls and you can even use it in malls.

You can take it to the fair, but don’t get it in your hair.

You can use wheat paste here you can use wheat paste there.

Why don’t you know that you can use wheat paste any where.

Why you can use it anywhere at all as long as you have some balls, and

The best thing of all is you can make five gallons for about three hundred cents.”

This gives us a good idea as to the usage and cost of wheat paste. But let me stress in no uncertain terms that WE DO NOT CONDONE THE VIOLATIONS OF ANY LAWS that might infringe upon the placement of posters upon any surface. As there have been many calls for my head as a result of the actions by those of you out there who are placing posters upon surfaces that are not allowed I must state publicly that I do not condone such activities and cannot be held responsible for the actions of others even if I did condone them. Therefore I caution those brave monkey warriors who lope through darkened streets with steaming buckets of glitter glue to be cautious, aware and responsible for their own actions.

Adding 1/2 bottle of Elmer’s Glue per every gallon of hot water increases the strength, and durability of the wheat paste, or so we have heard.

We add just a touch of glitter to give the posters that special glint of FREEDOM.

Thank you everyone for making this poster campaign a resounding success. We have been placed in museums, newspapers, TV news shows, internet message boards, blogs, and a whole host of other things. We've even been invited to submit an essay to an upcoming book containing essays from various activists in the anti-war movement. Indeed the project has taken on a life of its own that none of us ever anticipated at its inception so very long ago in that smoke filled room. Now instead of just another hair brained idea hatched by bleary eyed hair farmers it is an international phenomena with posters going all over the world to such places as China, Australia, Mexico and Nicaragua, Venezuela, The Yucatan, Norway, Egypt, Turkey, Romania, Greece and Iraq.

I want to thank everyone out there who is spreading these posters and taking the time out of their lives, and the cash out of their pockets to not only get them up, but to spread them into every little cubby hole that there is. In Seattle entire phone polls are seen wrapped in posters, garbage cans, phone booths and other such places are covered with them, the backs of street signs, fence posts, I even heard of fences getting postered, cars, garages, and a whole plethora of other places are getting covered. Recruiting stations seem to be a favorite spot for posters to make their way either into or around. This is good as those going to be recruited should be exposed to some dose of reality not provided by glossy recruitment brochures, and the likes of Bill O'Reilly.

I urge those out there to continue their efforts, spread the posters, send them to your friends, send them to your representatives, congressmen and women, send them to anyone and anywhere that you can. I'll keep cranking them out once a week (unless I'm in jail) and you guys keep spreading them all over the world. That is a pact that I will keep and I hope that you will too, at least until this war is over and ALL of the dead on both sides have been counted.

Poster on monkey warriors for the night is our home, and these are our streets.
