Unions are important to
help preserve jobs, protect wages and secure safe working conditions.
Yet all across the country unions are under attack.

Union organizer Tom Kappas
was fired over a couple of bananas that he paid for
honestly.
(By Dimitris Katsaounis)
There was nothing wrong with
Tom Kappas buying a couple of bananas. Wild Oats claimed a discount on
the bruised fruit was a firing offense, but discounting spoiled
fruit was a standard store practice. By firing Tom, Wild Oats
was just enforcing their long-standing anti-union policy of shutting
down any organizing drive.

This happens over and over: a "politically correct" high-end grocery store pays shitty. The food is expensive, so the workers, being somewhat naive and PC themselves, seek work there, partly to get a better deal on the health food.
After a little while, it becomes obvious: it's a job, as usual. Then you start hearing about the decent wages union folks get, or even the relatively decent pay that Trader Joe's gets.
Shit doesn't look quite right. Well. That's what happens. And the people who shop there are hoodwinked, because, well, they're somewhat shallow. They were the same people who stopped shopping at the local hippie food co-op, because it wasn't as shiny as Whole Foods or Wild Oats.
They're probably the same people who dis the ethnic green grocery, because they sell veggies right on the sidewalk, and because the food isn't organic.
Hippie heads should get it together.
Down with Frito Lay, up with fruit.
Down with soda, up with water.
Down with McDonalds, up with mom-and-pop food stands with real cooking.
Grow nuts everywhere.
Whole grains, eat primitive.
What's the point of attaining the perfect body for longevity, if the world around you is getting sick?
Not everyone wants to eat like a jungle dweller in 19th century Africa. By the way, if you don't like the working conditions at Whole Foods or other such places, then don't work there. Only 8% of American private workers are unionized. 33% of governments workers are union, as are teachers. Government workers and teachers....hmmm...now there's two of the most innovative groups around. BWAHAHAHA!
