EMERGENCY PROTEST – WED., JUNE 30, 5 P.M.

No to Fake "Sovereignty" - End the Occupation of Iraq!

Bring the Troops Home Now!

This Wed., June 30, 5 p.m.

Westwood Federal Building (corner of Wilshire & Veteran)

For more info. call 323-464-1636

Yesterday’s surprise announcement of the "transfer of sovereignty" to the U.S.-appointed Iraq Interim Government, is a giant hoax meant to the mask the escalation of the U.S. war. It is a public relations stunt meant to appease global anger and growing opposition inside the United States to the disastrous war and occupation in Iraq.

This maneuver by the Bush administration is motivated by fear of the growing popular resistance to occupation in Iraq, a reality that was emphasized by the holding of the "transfer ceremony" in

secret, two days ahead of schedule.

Iraq has not "regained its sovereignty." It continues to be occupied by more than 165,000 foreign troops, its new U.S.-appointed "leader" is a long-time agent of British and U.S. intelligence services, and its most vital resource, oil, remains under U.S. control.

The only real turnover of power today was from Coalition Provisional Authority administrator L. Paul Bremer, to incoming U.S. Ambassador John Negroponte. Iraq, a country of only 25 million people, will have the biggest U.S. embassy in the world, which will be the real center of power in that country.

At the same time, as made clear on June 27 by Sen. Joseph Biden, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Armed Services committee, tens of thousands more U.S. troops will soon be joining the 140,000 already in Iraq. THE WAR IS BEING ESCALATED.

How many more Iraqi people and U.S. soldiers must die for a war based entirely on lies?

The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition has called for an emergency protest on June 30, 5 p.m., at the Westwood Federal Building in Los Angeles, demanding an end to the occupation, denouncing the fake "turnover of sovereignty," and calling on the Bush administration to bring the troops home now! Join us!
