Haiti's elected Prime Minister, Yvon Neptune, was imprisoned this week by the Bush-imposed coup leaders. The man the Bush regime forced in February upon Haiti, South Florida talk radio host Gerard Latortue, claimed Prime Minister Neptune was arrested for killings by President Jean-Bertrand Aristide's Fanmi Lavalas supporters.
Latortue has praised his own death squad allies as "freedom fighters," while taking every opportunity to attack Aristide, Neptune, and Lavalas. Latortue has claimed since February to serve as Haiti's Prime Minister, based on selection by three "elders" chosen by the United States. He is not recognized by the Caribbean Community, the Organization of American States, nor the African Union, but by the United States and European governments.
President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, after being kidnapped by U.S. agents and being placed under de facto house arrest, was rescued by African-American Congresswoman Maxine Waters of Los Angeles. Following a temporary stay in Jamaica, President Aristide is currently in South Africa, where he continues to be recognized as the legitimate elected Haitian head of state.
