On January 11, 2004 we ran an article titled "BUSH CALCULATES Killed In Action Numbers." The article began with: This goes beyond politics. Bush and the Bush Administration have actually calculated the number of dead service men and women they believe the American public will accept. The discussions revolved around how many casualties can be incurred in the Iraqi War without a back lash that would affect Bush’s popularity and reappointment campaign.
The source went on to say, "The numbers that have been discussed as acceptable are up to 950 casualties or less." They believe that if the numbers are anywhere near 1,000 it could cause severe political fall out.
In an attempt to stop this censorship by the Sinclair Broadcast Group, ABC News said on Friday that they were going to arrange a special feed of the tribute to those killed in action though alternative media sources. That ABC would allow other radio and TV stations in the cities where the program being pulled the option to air the show.
At the same time Sinclair Broadcast Group again confirmed it will not air the Nightline program. In this program Ted Koppel will read the names of all 738 American Soldiers who have died so far in this war. A tribute to honor their service, and a tribute to their families who may take comfort in the fact that they’re not just numbers on a board.
Sinclair Broadcast Group, through their actions, has attempted to turn this into a political issue. What is wrong with this world, and the people like those from Sinclair Broadcast Group, when they find the need to make this another political issue. Can’t we honor the faces and names of American mothers, fathers, bothers, sisters, wives, husbands, sons, daughters, friends and family who died without making it a political issue.
738 people who have died serving their country. 738 people who shall never touch the lives of those closest to them again. 738 people for which this broadcast was suppose to be a tribute of their lives for the benefit of all their family and friends. 738 people whose memory has been turned into a political issue because of one small group of ignorant individuals at Sinclair Broadcast Group.
Maybe in a way we should be thanking the Sinclair Broadcast Group. I know I would have never know to watch Nightline on Friday if it hadn’t been for them making an issue out of broadcasting the show.
Maybe the Sinclair Broadcast Group has done, as what most of us refer to as, "shot themselves in the foot." By making this an issue and pulling the show of the air in seven cities, I think they’re going to help Nightline achieve twice or three times as many viewers as they otherwise may have had. The press coverage today alone is going to make some people tune in just to see what all the fuss was about.
Sinclair has said the scheduled Nightline show for Friday night is a politically motivated bid to turn public opinion against America's military presence in Iraq. I’d say maybe Sinclair should get their heads out of the sand and take a look at what the polls have been doing with regards to this war over the past six months, and I don’t think those numbers had anything to do with Nightline.
The only one making this a political issue is the Sinclair Broadcasting Group. Who for the record has only contributed the maximum amount of financial support to the Bush Campaign. While donating nothing to the Kerry Campaign. Gee, I wonder who is really the one playing politics here?
ABC and Ted Koppel have stated that the broadcast is politically neutral, that their intent was to honor Americans who died in Iraq. Koppel was quoted as saying it was, ''to remind everyone of who these young people are and what they look like.''
Senator John McCain, who is a Republican and former prisoner of war during the Vietnam conflict, said the Sinclair Broadcasting Group’s decision as ''unpatriotic.'' I don’t always agree with the Republicans, and I don’t know that "unpatriotic" is the word I’d use. But I agree that their decision was wrong.
The latest information we had with regards to the additional feeds was that a special feed of the ''Nightline segment, titled ''The Fallen,'' would be available in the seven markets where Sinclair had cancelled the program. That one Fox television affiliate, WHNS in Greenville, South Carolina, was planning to take the broadcast feed in place of Sinclair-owned station WLOS in nearby Winston-Salem.
Just when you think the Republicans can’t twist anything else. They decide to twist the motives behind a tribute to 738 dead Americans. It’s a shame that the only ones who are hurt in the end by this, are the families and friends of those who lost their lives.
Peace, Love, and Understanding. Words without any meaning to some people.

Iran and Syria. Israel remains safe and protected by Bush and Sharon since they removed mutual enemy and threat, Saddam.
