Despite students and faculty pleas, Chartwells Food Service Co. a subsidiary of Compass, a multi-billion dollar multinational corporation, refuses to allow the food service workers on the Purchase Campus of
SUNY to form a union. Many of these workers make about $14,000/yr. and pay too much for health insurance. Thirteen students were arrested
recently after they marched across campus and attempted to deliver Chartwells’ CEO, Steve Sweeney, who was speaking on campus, an award for being the worst employer on campus. The workers and students are now protesting the use of excessive police force at this demonstration and are calling for an independent investigation of the Administration’s
handling of the non-violent protest.

TELL UNION CARBIDE/DOW CHEMICALS
TO CLEANUP BHOPAL
with
Satinath (Sathyu) Sarangi –
Founder of Clinic in Bhopal to Help Victims of the Disaster
THE WORLD'S WORST-EVER INDUSTRIAL DISASTER devastated the
Indian city of Bhopal nearly 20 years ago, in 1984. More than half a million people were exposed to the deadly gas released from a Union Carbide
factory there; of those, 20,000 have died and 150,000 were maimed.
The thousands of tons of toxic wastes dumped by Carbide in and around its factory site in Bhopal have leached poisons into the drinking water supply of
at least 20,000 Bhopal residents.. Although scientific confirmation on the groundwater contamination has been available since 1990, the Government
of India and Madhya Pradesh have done nothing till date to address the peoples demand for clean water.
