On Saturday, May 22, some 60 protesters conducted an action at the new Wal-Mart's grand opening celebration in Baldwin Park. The purpose was to bring the local community's attention to the giant retailer's abuse of its employees through economic exploitation.
Though most people crossed this informational picket, a good number didn't, and a few honked in support. Additionally, when the store tried to put out trash cans to encourage people to throw away the flyers the Union was passing out, most of the people kept the flyers. The picketers were not hostile, and it was just to educate.
The pickets went from noon to 4, and participants included students from Mt. Sac, community members involved in peace and justice, and union folks.
The event was sponsored by:

Police showed up but nothing really happened.
