Geneva, Switzerland.-
The resolution submitted by Cuba to the UN Human Rights Commission on the situation of US war prisoners confined at its Guantanamo Naval Base reveals incoherencies and a conflict of interests among member countries. Cuban diplomat Alfonso Reyes said his delegation expects to see a demonstration of hypocrisy, arrogance and a double standard during debates and voting on the resolution, now scheduled for Friday in Geneva. Reyes noted "diplomats, human rights experts and non governmental organizations see the Cuban resolution on the arbitrary detentions at the US Naval Base as Cuba's message of true commitment with human rights, filling a void at the commission," on the topics of the US war on Iraq and its illegal occupation of a portion of Cuban territory. "Everyone talks of the legal black hole at the US military enclave where over 600 prisoners are deprived of their basic human rights," said Reyes. The diplomat assured that Cuba would continue to expose US manipulations while voicing the serious concerns of southern nations.
