Sherman Austin Benefit Concert ( and birthday bash -- Sherman turns 21) set for April 10 in Tucson, AZ

Greetings -

The Dry River Radical Resource Center + others are finalizing plans for the Tucson Radical Activist Conference set for April 10 in downtown Tucson, Arizona.

We are in the last lap before the conference so stress is running high, though we are also very excited about what is shaping up to be a diverse array of workshops and in the case of the Sherman Austin Benefit Concert ( and birthday bash -- Sherman turns 21 on April 10), a solid bill of musicians from all over the Southwest!

*********Conference Schedule*************

Registration: 9:30am (Registration is free, sign-in to receive a Conference Program)

Start: 10:00 am (Introductory remarks and orientation)

Workshops: 10:15 - noon, 1:15 - 3pm. Workshops will be offered in four blocks throughout the morning and early afternoon. Workshops confirmed include: Nuclear Abolition in Global Movements (Nuclear Resister), Indymedia 101 (AZ Indymedia), Know Your RIghts and Legal Strategy (Rachel Wilson), How to Run a Small Publishing Press (See Sharp Press), Radical Feminism (DRRRC), Radical Geography as a Tool for Liberation (Brian Marks), Viglantes and the Border (Border Action Network), Non-Violent Direct Action Training (Dace), Printing/Screen Printing (Gloo Factory), and Pirate Radio 101 (Radio Limbo). Several other workshops will hopefully be confirmed in the next couple weeks.

Networking Session: 3:15 - 4:15 pm. We have drafted a proposal for a Tucson/Regional Networking Session that will occur after the workshop blocks but before the Keynote address. We will send out the proposal to this list for your perusal after it is finalized later this week. Also, we hope to have Spanish translators on hand to accomodate Spanish speaking attendees.

Keynote speaker: 4:30 - 5:00 pm. Keynote for the Conference will be Jennifer Martin Ruggiero - mother of Sherman Austin and social activist in her own right. She will speak on Sherman Austin's legal case and discuss prison issues.

Dinner: 5:15pm. Food Not Bombs! will supply a healthy, vegetarian dinner after the Conference (but before the Benefit Concert)!

The Benefit Show will begin at 7:00pm. Confirmed acts include: Conflict-Resolution (Phoenix), thedsc (Phoenix), and Cuauhtemoc (LA area). A couple/three additional acts are in the process of being confirmed. The benefit show will cost ya $5 bucks (proceeds go to Sherman).

**********Housing/Rides***********

Contact Jeff at jeff@greenbicycle.net or 520/884-1157 if you need housing or want to find a ride to the Conference. He will do his best to help you out.

**********Location*************

The Conference will be held at Skrappy's -- 201 E. Broadway -- in downtown Tucson. To get there from Interstate 10, get off at the Broadway exit and head east about 6 blocks. Turn lefts at 5th Ave. Skrappy's is on the NE corner of Broadway and 5th.

The Benefit Show will be held at Skrappy's as well.
