THE LOS ANGELES GREENS JOIN ASSEMBLYMEMBER JACKIE GOLDBERG AND OTHERS
ASKING GOVERNOR SCHWARZENEGGER TO PARDON PAMELA MARTINEZ
LOS ANGELES (March 22)- The Los Angeles Greens added their names today to the growing list of
California organizations and citizens asking Schwarzenegger for clemency
in the case of Pamela Martinez.
Pamela Martinez has already spent seven years in prison for the
non-violent theft of a small toolbox, and has rebuilt her life as a
productive citizen since her release in 2001.
Los Angeles Greens will participate in a rally Wednesday outside of Governor Schwarzenegger's Los Angeles office called by FACTS (Families to Amend California's Three Strikes) who has taken up the cause of Pamela Martinez, a victim of three-strikes sentencing laws
DATE: Wednesday, March 24
TIME: 3pm to 6pm
WHERE: Governor's Office
300 S. Spring Street
Los Angeles, CA
Attorney General Bill Lockyer has ordered her back to prison to serve an
additional 65 days for that same petty theft. If she is forced to
fulfill his order, she will lose her hard-won job and home.
Assemblymember Jackie Goldberg has submitted a request for clemency to
the governor on behalf of Ms. Martinez. The Los Angeles Greens urge
him to honor that request and save Ms. Martinez from a senseless, life
shattering extension to an already too long prison sentence.
'How is California served by having a middle-aged woman who has already more than paid for her crime and rehabilitated her life,' said Genevieve Marcus, spokesperson for Los Angeles Greens."Lose it all in order to give the state 65 more days of incarceration?'
