U.S. Poised to Attack Venezuela

by Daniel B Monday, Mar. 22, 2004 at 7:42 AM

Recent developments around the world are causing some people to think the U.S. Department Of Defense has Venezuela and its Leader Hugo Chavez in their cross hairs.

Today millions of people around the world stood together in solidarity to protest the evil U.S. empire's wars around the globe.

We know the wars will not stop so easy. A top U.S. intelligence insider has leaked information he has about war plans to attack Venezuela. I imagine an Islamic terrorist group will pop up there as an excuse to send in the Marines.

America is out of control and the people around the world know it. Today the people of the world showed strong courage and control to hold back their wrath. But let it be known to all when the time to unite and fight is upon us their will be no mercy for the Corporate Military Industrial Holy bastards that have no conscience.

You might be right

Activity in the Venezuelan Army, and in the usual US hemispheric "security" things, has picked up.

Don't put the signs away.

as opposed to...

And this is a problem compared to what? The CIA and pro-business interests involving themselves in the ouster of popularly elected leaders, replacing them with puppet dictators? The SOA training mercenaries for the rich to torture popular (often progressive) people in other countries?

The US supported Baby Doc Duvalier, who was clearely a FUCKING INSANE MEGALOMANIAC ASSHOLE WHO TORTURED AND STOLE FROM HAITI, but we eventually realized that he was a bad guy... and Aristide, in comparison, was preferable. He was popular, not a communist, and clergy. The Left likes him because he's a Liberation Theologist.

I suspect the Right dislikes Aristide because he resists the general trend of long-term hyperexploitation that western business interests want to impose on the poor countries of the world. The same goes for Chavez, who wants to jack up the price of oil to fund domestic social programs. (That's positively "businesslike", to try and maximize profits.)

The Democrat presidents tend to go along with the Republican foreign-policy line because they get a lot of the same campaign money. (There seems to be a marked contrast in funding sources at the local and state level.) So, you get your Bill Clintons and John Kerrys.

The deal they cut is - poverty in the global south will fund affluence in the USA. By helping keep wages low in places like Haiti, Indonesia, US Marianas, and dozens of other poor countries, you reduce your investment risk, and keep labor costs under control. Under old-fashioned business thinking, this would lead to lower prices everywhere.... but clearly, it hasn't. Some things are still expensive. You can't buy Nike shoes at Payless Shoe Source

but it is worrisome to think it's being considered.

This resource grab is dangerous and the only ones who will pay and suffer will be most of us in the end.
