that's a good one, Jack.
Sycophantic suck ups who are two busy padding their own bank accounts than serving the voters who were fooled into voting for them.
Damn republicRats.
for the Democratic leadership on this issue (or most issues. I mean, they gutted McCain/Feingold after supporting it. It's all about their public image).. I'm sure we'll get a few lone Dems announcing their support for same-sex marriage rights, but I doubt we'll ever hear anything from the DNC, miserable cowards that they are.
The Republicans pulled it out of a hat because they had NOTHING BETTER to bring up. It's a distraction.
It's this big uncomfortable issue for the vast majority of older Americans. The Reps trot it out whenever they want to divide people. It's either this or abortion. Those are two polarizing issues for people who don't have sex anymore.
Dick Cheney's daugther is a lesbian. (Newt Gingrich's sister is too.) Bringing up gay marriage was just a cynical political maneuver, and the Democrats are smart to not make an issue of it.
The gay vote is tiny, and mostly Democrat. The GOP doesn't care if a handful of conservative gays abandon ship. They figure they'll make it up in homophobia voters.
Wait a few more weeks and see if they raise some race issues to try and get the anxious-white-people vote by getting POCs to get angry about something. (I heard that they were bankrolling Al Sharpton's candidacy, and that he's a stooge for the FBI.)
But that's going to change this year. I would imagine that Bush's "marriage defense" amendment nonsense would bring enough traditionally non-voting gays out to the polls to make up for the few Democrats who would jump ship over this issue. Simply not commenting AT ALL looks bad to a pretty sizable chunk of their voter base. I mean, we're not even hearing a "we'll defend the constituation for EVERYBODY" kind of blanket statement.
I can think of much better "wedge issues" than same-sex marriage.
