The Watchers Wait...

by Judith Moriarty Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004 at 4:34 PM

The Watchers Wait... Valentine To The World

Puny man rushing to and fro in a frenzy protecting his hoarded money, checking the stock market read outs every day, buying/selling, quarterly reports, contracts to be signed, and attorneys/lobbyists to be hired to set up those loopholed deals for industry through various permits, tax subsidies, regulations, and policies through cumbersome, tedious, language in bills constructed so that the citizen hasn't a clue as to the amount of the newest heist.

Puny man rushing from distraction to distraction amidst the leering, sneers of side show barkers, bloated snake oil salesmen with their wares, booths of chance, and rides promising that long sought thrill of a lifetime. Citizens: Businessmen, officials, politicians, industry hucksters, religious fanatics of every ilk and tribe, the drumming esoteric, the intellectual with his one book, black robed injustice, flour drenched pastry makers, the candy man, lobbyists without principle-preaching principle, the pot-belly sports fan with his painted face, the gladiators of war and sports, the haunted miner, the muscular steel man, the woodsman, the fisherman, the farmer on his patch of land surrounded by corporate farms etc; thrown together in a cornucopia of the guttural, lewd, perverse greedy, egotism, narcissism, sniffed disdain, arrogance, superiority, bias, prejudice, jealousy, rage, compromise and shivering unnamed fear; jostling, ripping tearing, pushing, shoving, kicking, and assaulting one another in word or deed each other in their quest, search, desire for their handful of slop in the trough, their prize, their just dues, their right to have!

And yet beyond the chaos, mayhem, violence, thunder of bombs, the carousel of lust, the designer clad hollow ones-devoid of empathy, conscience or sacrificial giving, there are the Watchers. They are the scribes, recorders, communicators of justice, love, truth, goodness, kindness, giving, courage, honor, valor, and hope for a world gone mad-in its plundering, poisoning, and destroying the irreplaceable majesty of a jeweled planet that was given to them for their safe-keeping, their joy, their substance. Beyond the midway, the cheap thrills, the aroma of greasy sausage, oiled fries, and buttered corn they wait and they watch.

They are of every land, color, religion and no religion (as the world labels religion). They are labeled outcast, autistic, unclean, vermin, unwanted, etc. They reside in ghettos, prisons, shanty towns, abandoned cars, echoing mill towns, haunted mine towns, rural villages, nursing homes and institutions. Who would suspect? Some speak to the plunder, others write, paint, create song for the soul in poetry and music. Some are mute, some twisted and stunted. Great gifts wrapped in the refuse of the midway's excessive materialism--tossed aside as so much litter. Useless, unwanted, not measuring up, not polished, nor layered in acceptable titles, wealth or prestige. They watch. They keep safe the greatest gift which men of the flesh have no concept of, and that is Love.

This is that which no title, position, or money can purchase at any price. The cheap counterfeit which men have created for themselves is lust. Lust of the flesh, lust for power and lust for money. Ever seeking-never finding. Impossible, for it exists only in the Spirit-its fruits seen in the personality of the soul.

Men are taken aback if you speak of "love" to them. In their shallow-unschooled-narrow minded interpretation the only reference they have connects with lust. For ex: There are 3 types of Love spoken of in the New Testament (which fleshly carnival-goers have no knowledge of). Nor does the unteachable man with his one book and one philosophy. Do not mistake that which is spoken of today as war being a holy crusade, ordered by a voice from some unknown God as a message of 'love' in the form of liberation-freedom-democracy-or solicitous concerns of a peoples sufferings! The man of flesh is not capable of such compassion. It is merely empty clanging rhetoric dressed up in scriptural robes to make it more palatable for the naive, the self-righteous, the fanatical and the dumb. Men from all ages have heard voices and proclaimed that God has a message for the masses. Just so, I think that a God of such majesty would be quite capable of giving the message to each separately instead of the questionable one. If a man is known by his "fruits" which are; "Love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control" what leads us to trust?

The New Testament was written in Greek, but when translated into the English language there is only one word for all three definitions of love. John 21:15 "knowst that I love thee" is the Greek: agapaw which in English is agapao. Strong's Concordance gives us the word people are most familiar with "agape". This "love" would be best translated to mean charity or a living kind of caring love for someone. It chiefly means doing and caring for some one as much as you care for yourself. This is a godly love and can be manifest even if you do not necessarily like someone or do not know them.

John 21:15-17, "thou knowest that I love thee". The word Peter used all three times in his response to Jesus, is the word phileo (Greek: jilew). Now this love in Strong's Concordance gives the definition as: to love, to approve, to like, sanction, to treat affectionately or kindly, to welcome, befriend, to show signs of love, to kiss, to be fond of doing. It denotes a brotherly love. The city of Philadelphia is called the city of brotherly love.

The third word for love and that which the world speaks to is eros. I do not think this one is found in Scriptures but comes to us from translating out Classical Greek writings. We get the English word erotic from this one and it pertains to sex. The Scriptural Greek was more interested in how we treat each other than it was about a physical sensation. How puny is man in the vastness of the Universe, and most especially in showing love to one another of all creeds, colors, religions, beliefs, and stations in life. Love that embraces the Israeli, the Palestinian, the Iraqi, the Afghan, the Iranian, the Kurds, the Turks, the Syrians, the Koreans, the Cubans, the French, the Germans, the English, the Canadian, the Russians, the Mexicans, the Chinese, et.al. and with heartfelt embrace says: "thou knowst that I love thee". Maybe this disembodied voice from the God of war should be "outsourced/downsized" so that the God of Love may manifest Himself. So say the Watchers. The heart of the Universe pictured below shows forth the heart that waits to

love. jm
