Vomit Bowl Sunday
Today millions of yankee flag wavers will flock to their TV sets to immerse themselves - mind, body and soul - in something that has absolutely nothing to do with their lives - as if it were the most important event in the world.
Meanwhile there’s not enough money for schools, 45 million people have no health care, drastic cuts in social services, millions of workers are without jobs, millions without homes. Millions are in prison (the US has long maintained the highest incarceration rate in the world). Our Constitution is being systematically turned into a rag with so-called anti-terrorist legislation like the Patriot Act and Patriot Act II. Big Brother is everywhere, in our homes, our workplaces, our toilets, etc.
Laws to protect the environment are being repealed and/or ignored. Corporate polluters are being pardoned by the hundreds.
A war goes on - one that was initiated under the false pretense of WMDs. Now the president and his gang are backtracking, saying it doesn’t matter if Iraq has no WMDs. Hundreds of thousands of innocent people in that country have died over the past 13 years because of US military actions and US-imposed sanctions. And many more must die so a president can reelect himself and treat his friends to some of the booty.
But a football game is more important than this because after all, this is America and God Bless America, which is the equivalent of saying “To hell with the rest of the world”. So relax all you yankee flag wavers out there and enjoy your game, the so-called Super Bowl.
As you reach for the Super Bowl to save you from reality the rest of the world will reach for a vomit bowl. The world is sick of you.
The YANK INVADERS vs. the TIGRIS TIGERS
... anyone keeping score?
Kinda lost count but I believe we're up by several thousands.
Yep, there goes another one.
Jeez. It's a football game. People get into watching sports because it's fun; maybe they don't have enough excitement in their real life. Perhaps it would be better if people actually played more football instead of just watching it, but, you can't force people to do that. I won't comply.
People attach so much significance to the Super Bowl, you can get to feeling bad (or good) for watching it. There *are* leftists who are into the game. I'm watching it right now. Of course, I hope the Patriots lose big, but, anything's possible.
The ads suck. The RIAA anti-piracy ad that's supposed to play really sucks, doubly, because it's an "issue" ad and takes the greedy big-business side of the issue.
(I just read an editorial in a trucking magazine that equated the ELF vandalism of the Hummers in West Covina with Al Qaeda, and aligned the Hummer with Liberty, God, and Country. What the hell's going on here? It's just a gas guzzling [15 lives per gallon] truck, and with what Chrysler did to it, not even a real Hummer anymore. Someone's drinking the blood of christ from the lead chalice a little too often.)
(Hey - J and S - if you read this - I tried to make it to the peace vigil, but my friend's damn car broke. Brake pads bit the dust and I was stuck at Pep Boys. It's a conspiracy: it is an American car. Sorry guys. Maybe next time.)
They might make it, not much time...
Go Panthers!!!!
The South will rise again!!!!
Go Panthers!!!
This is a real cliffhanger!!!
There were a large number of "issue ads" on the Super Bowl. Smoking, drinking, and music file copying were covered. MoveOn really called it. The low-light of the night was the Janet Jackson boob-show/publicity stunt to revive her lagging career, and allowing producers MTV to retain their virtually nonexistent "hip" cred. I hate halftime shows, and missed it.
The football was pretty good though, and got exciting in the second half. The Panthers made a nice comeback, though the Patriots executed a perfect field goal in the end and took the game.
