You, you, you

by mymicz1 Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 at 9:33 PM

My boyfriend and I have a running joke.......

Remeber when we were kids, and we called someone stupid. Inevitably, the other kid would say, "no you're stupid!" and maybe stick out his tounge. Of course this could go back and forth for hours. That's how children play, in a rythmical back and forth, until they come to some conclusions or the day ends.

As we grow up, we see how silly it is to go back and forth. It becomes redundant, and it's called the blame game.

We begin to introspect, maybe even doubt our very selves. We go through a process of searching through what we may have done wrong, and trying to stop the nagging arrow from pointing at us again.

What I am finding more and more, is that people who don't have much of a case, people who can't face their own misdeeds, and people who really love the adversarial position rather than working things out, still use this childlike method of back and forth criticism. They are also often guilty of bigotry in the sense that they may commit a crime due to what they feel is their right to be free, yet they condemn the same crime by the opposing force.

Hypocracy is not even an adequate description of the situation. It's just pure childishness.

For every argument made against a people, the same can often be made against their enemies.

In fact, often the argument is made by their enemies, to deflect inefficiencies in their own governments and broad malfiecence like racism.

When did we all decide that it was o.k. for some to be racist because thy were justified by past events?

Doesn't that destroy the whole theory of why racism is so downright ugly in the first place.

When did we start equating each individual, regardless of their level of culpability, with the mistakes, and atrocities committed by their tax money?

Did you have a choice when you paid taxes of where it would really go? I think not.

The reason I am saying this is not to benefit the left or the right.

It's to berate both sides, for being guilty of judging others before they really judged themselves and their own contribution for good or evil.

To this day, although I do not choose a religion per say, I am mindful of something Jesus once said, "Let ye that hath not sinned cast the first stone."

I call on all peoples to concentrate on their own actions. Each day we spend in non-violent resistance does not have to be marching in public to have effect.

Rather, what it needs to be is daily practice of sustainable living and commerce. Instead of lobbying government or media to change the way they run things, we need to run our own lives in accordance with these principles and be our own grass roots word of mouth media to convince our families that Solar panels, and organic foods, are the way to preserve a future for thier kids. Instead of giving money to the sierra club, which I believe does do their own amount of good, we should be banding together to collectively subsidize eco-living.

And instead of blaming one side or another for it's failures, and all sides are guilty, we should be praising the victories, and sponsoring the victors.

We are all to be blamed for negative politics. And we all could make a change in our daily lives that would have more impact than bitching about the guy in power. For instance, if we do choose to protest, we are all aware of police brutality, in fact we count on it to mak our case against a repressive state.

However, we have forgotten that we can hire our own protection from police, and that the cities who martial these police would be helpless and have to aquiece if we could guarantee them our own security troops that are absolutely mindful of human rights.

Concert venues have done this for a long time.

Let's Rock.

Did you have a choice when you paid taxes

by Hex anon w/ encryption Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 at 9:51 PM

yes - the choice is in NOT paying them

as to the other proposals we need to be more realistic - there IS no solution to the energy crisis within the framework of our standard of living

and the average person is un-willing to make any changes that impact it, it's far easyer to just pay taxes and sit back and let the global elite feed us soothing lies while they ruin the earth *forever*

most people don't really understand the gravity of the situation...

eventually this system will collapse on its own as it is unsubstainable, however by the time it does there will be nothing left to save

since all life on earth is interconnected and technology is a dead end (and I'm saying this as an independent scientist) there is no future at all for the vast majority of mankind

if man can't reduce the population to substainable levels mother nature will do it for him...

Racism is not a personality trait

Well, Ms. mymicz (Mr. if you are gay), your ideas about hypocracy are not without merit. We are all running on a lot hypocracy. But you fail miserably to argue your point with this:

"For every argument made against a people, the same can often be made against their enemies.

In fact, often the argument is made by their enemies, to deflect inefficiencies in their own governments and broad malfiecence like racism.

When did we all decide that it was o.k. for some to be racist because thy were justified by past events?

Doesn't that destroy the whole theory of why racism is so downright ugly in the first place."

You apparently do not know what racism is. It is not a strong dislike of someone because of their race or ethnicity. It is not that check-out girl who rolls her eyes at you or the bus driver who doesn't smile at you or the cliche of black kids at school who ignore you. It is a system, social, political and perhaps most importantly economic, of power that privileges some races over others. And seeing as black African peoples have never been priviledged over white European peoples, it is also safe to call that system white supremacy. When black police officers are caught on tape beating white children, Vietnamese or Cambodians start dropping bombs on Germany, or Native Americans start confiscating land in Europe while Africans enslave them, theire is no veracity to your claim that racism is mutually inclusive.
