If it is supposed to be some kind of Honour then: The portrayal of U.S.Soldiers as Time Magazine's "Person of the Year" is a Sick and Offensive Joke!
Portraying U.S. Soldiers as Time Mag's "Man of Year" is Sick,Offensive Joke!
The U.S.Military and its soldiers carried out the "Illegal" Iraq War,no-questions-asked, at the whim or behest of the Faschist Bush Regime! Not only did the US Military and its U.S.Soldiers carry out the Iraq War,they also committed (and are still committing) numerous "Atrocities" (murder & torture) against the Iraqi civilian population!
The U.S.Military and its U.S.Soldiers also committed "Atrocities" (murder & torture & even genocide ) in such far flung places as Afghanistan, Panama;Grenada;Cambodia;Laos;Vietnam!
The U.S.Military and its U.S.Soldiers commited many other crimes such as "Treason" against the U.S.Constitution,when they kidnapped foreign nationals and held them without any legal rights in Guantanamo Bay Cuba! The U.S.Military in effect set up its own "Fascist" government and created its own "Fascist" laws which they had No Legal Right to do - nor did they have any Legal Authorization given to them from the U.S.Constitution, to set up their own Soverign (Fascist) Government!
For Time magazine to "Honour" a Criminal Organization like the U.S.Military and it "Goon Squad-like" Soldiers is an indictment of Time's noxious Right Wing conspiracy with the Fascist Bush Regime - but more importantly it serves as a grim forerunner of a bleak, vile and totalitarian American Empire!

First of all, it's "person of the year". Stop being so sexist.
Secondly, who better. Whether you agree with Bush or not, these soldiers are heroes. The war is not "illegal" (no war is "illegal" or "legal"...that's ridiculous [although Saddam did break the ceasefire conditions soon after the first Gulf War which opened the way for any military action to be considered perfectly acceptable]). And there certainly haven't been any "atrocities" committed. Those actions are reserved for the terrorists fighting our guys and blowing up all oer the middle east.

k. hawley... You said - "...it serves as a grim forerunner of a bleak, vile and totalitarian American Empire! "
This is exactly the kind of wild, over the top statement that makes leftists look like utter morons.
Be sure to send us a signal when you're ready to re-enter the earths atmosphere...

While the sacrifices made by US soldiers are real, and often frightening, to give them all the desigantion of hero is only using doublespeak to justify an ignomious war.
A hero, by definition, is someone who goes against the grain of society and culture to do something remarkable that benefits society and renews positive cultural values. To go down into a village and set fire to house, to publicly humiliate children, to graffiti and desecrate ancient and important cultural markers (such as Ur), and to press buttons launching cluster bombs and cruise missiles aimed at civilian non-combatnats are not the acts of heroes.
These guys are just following orders, again, not heroic...much more mercenary. Their orders are illegal and demonic. And the criminals who give those orders should be in jail instead of being made into role models for kids and gullible nincompoops like the shills who come here day after day making idiotic comments.

Translation: Our soldiers are evil bastards.
"Humiliating children"? - Yeah, they love to humiliate kids, its a real thrill.
"Graffiti"? - Yeah, they go through spray paint cans by the hundreds a day and its been a huge news story.
'Desecrasting cultural landmarks'? - You mean like statues of Saddam?
You make it sound like our troops are out there for no other purpose than to harrass, humiliate and kill civilians intentionally. You, Parmenides, are an idiot. YOU ARE A SHILL for Saddam and the Baathist terror waged against the Iraqi people.
But there is little point in explaining this too you. Leftists sheep (Lenin's "useful idiots") never met a dictator they didn't love.

Beyond the fact that you would LOVE for any of the atrocities you've mentioned to be true (I know you'd gladly sacrifice a thousand Iraqi babies to a US flamethrower if it would help prove your anti-US fantasies) and the fact that they are not, the truth is that these guys are heroes. They volunteer to risk their life fighting an enemy which is attcking the entire world.
You'll never get it but the truth is that these very same islamic monsters that you lionoze and defend would gladly rip out your throat for simply being American.
Parm - you've made yourself look the fool again.
Merry Christmas to the troops in the God forsaken middle East.

I'd think that being a prowar shill would be tiresome work, and personally I'd not only be ashamed of doing it, but embarrassed by having to pretend to be that stupid. Can you imagine having to present yourself as an ignorant fuck, like "fresca" or "Reality Check," day in and day out? That's the mark of the true shill, though - deny, deny, deny, and stick to the party line. They're here to push the agenda of the war profiteers and promote the "us vs. them" mentality that's necessary in maintaining support for the slaughter, and truth be damned.
I'd hate to have to endlessly shovel out shit like "they volunteer to risk their life fighting an enemy which is attacking the entire world," - never mind that Iraq never attacked us, or that Saddam was just another of our puppet dictators. Don't think about that, or the tens of thousands of dead and maimed, or the lies we were told, just remember that we've sent our team out onto the field, and now we've got to root for them.
"...the people can always be brought to do the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Herman Goering
