Sumare (Brazil) prepares a bank holiday in honour of Zumbi dos Palmares.
"Built on the 20th of November" The date of celebration for the fight of the black leader Zumbi Dos Palmares is the name of the forthcoming seminar this Saturday the 25th of October by Sumare town council, in partnership with three trade unions of the Campinas region.
The event is the initiative of councellor Alan Cardeque (PT).
"Built on the 20th of November" is an event with a series of debates and presentations by Afro-Brazilian cultural groups. Public participation is most welcome.
The debate will be held at the local metalworkers syndicate in Sumare (Rua Antonio Jorge Chebabi, 1.598, Centro).
The presentations by the Capoeira will be held in the street opposite the trade union.
More than just fixing a date in the municipal calender, the purpose would be to have an official date in the Sumare calender to make reference to the fight against racial descrimination and the suffering of the people of African decent.
