Narco News Closes Up Shop

by more rational Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at 6:08 PM

On October 18th, the best reporters on the War on Drugs closed up shop, but the work they did will resonate for years.

These guys were the real deal. Authentic Journalism, weblogs, and the real truth about the War on Drugs.

Accepting "tips"

by RevereRides Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at 6:12 PM

The website has a snail mail address for those who wish to donate money, which might possibly be able to fund the re-emergence of the Narco News site.

Any time someone says...

by nonanarchist Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at 6:22 PM

..."the real truth", you can bet they have an agenda and aren't afraid to use it.

the agenda

by more rational Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at 8:32 PM

- The "war on drugs" is driven by the need to fund military intervention into South America, partly to gain access to its natural resources.

- Drugs should be decriminalized, and treated as a health problem. Narcotics prohibition is a failure.

There you go. The "agenda."

Sounds to me like...

by nonanarchist Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at 8:54 PM

...a bunch of stoners just looking to get wasted and then eat Twinkies.

If drugs are ever legalized, I'm buying stock in Hostess and Denny's.

Man, I'll be so stinkin' rich!

you don't need to be rich

by George Butch Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at 10:40 PM

to stink, nonanarchist.

most drugs are legal

by more rational Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at 4:00 PM

Most drugs *are* legal - alcohol, codine, valium, percocet, nicotine, etc. are all legal. Meth is created from ephedrine, and ecstasy from meth. The handful of illegal drugs should be legalized. Of those, marijuana should be legalized for recreational use, because it's effects are no stronger than those of alcohol. The drugs in plants (mushrooms, peyote, coca) should be legal to possess in their unprocessed state.

The remainder should be decriminalized, so posession doesn't lead to jail time. Treat them the way America's Favorite Conservative Junkie, Rush Limbaugh, is being treated - in a hospital. Give them a Valium, Immodium, diapers, and a barf bucket.

If this happened, there'd still be a drug problem, but, there wouldn't be this excuse for a *war* on drugs, fought with mercenary, FBI, CIA, and military intervention into South America.
