WBAI's Building Bridges:
Your Community & Labor Report- National Edition
Produced & Hosted by Mimi Rosenberg & Ken Nash
Presents
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva
Speaks To Labor In New York City
Lula, as the President of Brazil is popularly
known, criticized the protectionism practiced
by the rich countries that unjustly penalize
producers in developing nations. Reiterating
that he will continue to associate with the
Group 22, which emerged at the recent
Cancun Conference in order to attain an
effective opening in the markets, Lula
emphasized eradicating world hunger as “a political and moral imperative,” something he believes is possible but requires political will.
“The true path to peace consists in tirelessly fighting hunger and extreme poverty via a solidarity campaign that unites the planet, instead
of deepening the divisions and the hate that inflames peoples and sows terror.”
“What is the point of technological advances, wealth and luxury if we are not capable of guaranteeing the right to life?”, stressed Lula.
