Free University Of LA

by free la Sunday, Sep. 28, 2003 at 10:14 PM
FreeUniversityOfLA@yahoo.com

This series of talks/lessons is intended for ALL NON-AUTHORITARIAN people of LA who would like to have a general overview of SOME of the most significant instances, movements, theories, and languages of liberation.

IF YOU, OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW, WANTS TO PRESENT ANY OF THE TOPICS LISTED BELOW PLEASE EMAIL US AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

WE WILL POST THIS AGAIN WHEN WE HAVE THE DATES AND A WEBSITE.

THANK YOU.

FREE UNIVERSITY of LA: Series I

we WILL have our own schools that are NOT designed to re-produce ignorance, obedience, helpless docility, fear, and hate

Too often we try to reinvent the wheel and too often we have difficulty communicating with one another due to a lack of understanding of the cornerstones of other people’s ideas (e.g. “materialism,” “positive power,” “The Commune”, “internal colonialism”, “praxis”, ‘liberation’ vs. ‘rights’). This series of talks is intended for ALL NON-AUTHORITARIAN people of LA who would like to have a general overview of SOME of the most significant instances, movements, theories, and languages of liberation.

Whenever possible, the topics will be presented by people who use the presented ideas and lessons in their own struggles (praxis!). This will also give us the much-needed opportunity to get to know one another and build links with local groups that are, currently, as ghettoized as our city.

Contact relevant organizations to line up speakers and have them help us promote and provide links to other potential speakers. We should try to get speakers from organizations that are active in the particular field (e.g. Casa De Pueblo, American Indian Youth, Black Cross, etc.).

The promotion should include a preliminary listing of upcoming talks and desired speakers and then point to a web site to get the dates (each date should have a link if the speaker’s org has a site). By early December 2004 we will post and promote the dates themselves. The website will also give individuals an opportunity to sign up for particular talks in order for us to know how large of a space we need for each talk.

Each speaker will be asked to provide an outline of their talk 10 days in advance so that it can be shared with other speakers who might be presenting on the same topic.

Each session can be a broad intro thing. At the end of the session if the people want to get into the topic in any more depth, then, on the spot, they can agree to meet again. The location of the particular talks will be up to the speakers for that week, however, if they don't have a space or don't care, we can provide a space.

Do I still get to have PE in 4th period, after Stalin and Lenin? Coach makes me run extra laps if I miss PE.
