This recall election is a lot like three-dimensional chess. On the upper board the governor is busy deflecting voter anger to avoid being removed in October. The middle board is the playing field for a wide array of candidates, all taking a golden opportunity in the golden state. While at the lower board the nexus of maneuvers from above and electorate sensibilities are preparing to take the final move in the voting booth.
Into Infamy --- Could California be the next Florida?
Just suppose something like this takes place…
The first question on the ballot.
Yes on recall 51%
No on recall 49% --- Davis is out.
And just suppose the second question on the ballot ends up like this.
--- Vote for new governor ---
22% Schwarzenegger
20% Bustamante
17% McClintock
15% Ueberroth
12% Huffington
11% Camejo
3% others
--- Government by the Focus Group and For the Focus Group ---
The result of an election where the governor is selected by 22% of the electorate, while an incumbent loses with a 27-point advantage doesn’t support the principal of government by the people.
While the parties of both of these candidates are officially opposed to the recall, many socialists are for the recall, including Socialist Action.
The 3 reasons the workingclass should support the recall of Gray Davis are:
(1) He supports the death penalty;
(2) He supports prison construction;
(3) He supports private energy companies.
Only the socialist candidates are strongly against the death penalty, against all prison construction and existing prisons and against private energy companies. Socialists support taking over the private energy companies by right of eminent domain and establishing a public power agency in California. Socialists also support eliminating the death penalty and prisons.
I refer everyone to Angela Davis' latest little book, Are Prisons Obsolete? This is a prelude to her forthcoming book, Prisons and Democracy.
Socialists support legalizing drugs to get them off the street as they will no longer have market value, and to legalize being a prostitute. All non-violent prisoners should be freed immediately and their records cleared. The violent ones should be put in group homes and given sufficient health care, education and job training to become productive members of society as quickly as possible. The people on death row should also be given the same rehabilitation. Socialists support rehabilitation, not punishment.
The vote by mail (absentee voting) starts September 8. Any registered voter can sign up to be a permanent absentee voter. This allows you to vote in the comfort and privacy of your home when you have time and mail it to the Registrar of Voters immediately. To sign up, see http://regrec.co.la.ca.us/voter/absent_voter.htm
or call your own County Registrar of Voters and have them mail you an Application to be a Permanent Absentee Voter TODAY (that is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
The Los Angeles County Register-Recorder-County Clerk main page has lots of voter information at:

Jim, your gripe is with the populist of the last century who had this law passed. Otherwise, everything so far is by the book, i.e. the letter of the law. Cruz Boost-ur-taxes is going to go down the same road as Gray-out Davis. Anyone even further to the left of them is a sure receipe for disaster. The only ones who are going to lose are the citizens of California as long as you continue to vote liberal Democrats into office. Maybe you idiots need to fall into economic hell until you figure it out, should you ever figure it out. And so, you deserve what you get.

Then socialists should cough up the money and pay for it. Put YOUR money where your mouth is.
Attn: Socialists. Don't come knocking around my door wanting money for this foolishness, cause I'm not going to contribute.
John Christopher Burton & C.T. Weber <------------neither of which stand a dogs chance, thank goodness.
The passing of this bill into law could become the final nail in the coffin of an already overcommitted California budget. The consequences of this bill (which will become law because Davis wants to buy votes) will be a hugh financial burden to the state.
More and more businesses and industries will be leaving the state as long as the people there continue to allow such ridiculous legislation. It's time for the other 49 to allow California to sink in their own financial septic tank.
..that Joe Davis has finally got off his ass and done the right thing in the twelth hour by officially making it simple and easy for illegal immigrants to VOTE, BUY FIREARMS and DRIVE, I guess I'll have to vote to keep him office. Thank God someine's finally spoken for the PEOPLE (of Mexico) and allowed them these same three rights that selfish American citizens have hoarded for themselves for far too long.
One of the sillier complaints of the Angry Left of late has been that Republicans are endangering democracy by making end runs around constitutional procedures. They usually offer four examples, all of which are silly:
- Bill Clinton's impeachment. They sometimes call this "unconstitutional," even though the impeachment procedure is spelled out in the Constitution.
- The Florida election dispute. Somehow George W. Bush is supposed to have thwarted democracy there, even though he had more votes than Al Gore did and it was Gore who demanded changes in procedures to manufacture votes for him.
- Texas redistricting. The Dems have half a point here: Gerrymandering is an affront to democracy. But in opposing a prospective GOP gerrymander, they aren't calling for a neutral redistricting plan. They just want to preserve the current, Democratic gerrymander.
- The California recall. Again, this is a procedure spelled out in the (California) Constitution, not an end run around it.
Here's the latest GOP outrage: "California Democratic Party leaders . . . blasted the Taco Bell restaurant chain for a sales promotion that counts sales of different menu items as votes in a mock California recall election," reports the San Mateo Daily Journal:
Taco Bell announced the first installment of its Taco Poll results yesterday, in which 54 percent of the votes went to Schwarzenegger and his crunchy beef taco, and just three percent of the votes went to Davis and his chicken soft taco. All other candidates received 43 percent of votes through purchases of the chain's Grilled Stuft Burrito.
Unhappy with the mock poll results, the chairman of the California Democratic Party, former state Sen. Art Torres said . . . that "Taco Bell should stick to making tacos, not rigging elections."
