Harvey Rosenfeld v. Gov Davis on Davis' Anti-Consumer Law

by Ready to Recall Thursday, Aug. 07, 2003 at 7:22 AM

Harvey Rosenfeld, the author of the pro-consumer Prop 103 re auto insurance, may run for governor on the Recall Gray Davis ballot, because Davis just signed a pro-insurance auto bill that effectively violates Prop. 103.

Harvey Rosenfeld, the author of the pro-consumer Prop 103 re auto insurance, may run for governor on the Recall Gray Davis ballot, because Davis just signed a pro-insurance auto bill that effectively violates Prop. 103.

The press release of August 4, 2003 on this story from the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights may be found at:

http://www.ftcr.org/insurance/pr/pr003519.php3

or

http://www.consumerwatchdog.org/insurance/pr/pr003519.php3

This pro-insurance bill sponsored by that good Democrat, Senator Don Perata of Oakland, is a "pay or play" bill that according to the Contra Costa Times, 8/5/03, "allows auto insurance companies to give driver discounts for receiving continuous coverage over a certain amount of time." See

http://www.bayarea.com/mld/cctimes/news/special_packages/davis_recall/6460867.htm

According to the press release, one supporter of this anti-consumer bill, Mercury Insurance, "donated over $1 million to 62% of state lawmakers, including $25,000 to the bill's author Don Perata just before Mercury legislation was heard in the Senate Committee last year and another $25,000 to Gov. Davis after the bill arrived at his desk. Since then, Mercury has donated $200,000 more to state lawmakers. "

The FTCR/Consumer Watchdog site is also useful in exposing Democrat Gray Davis' support of the private energy companies and his giveaway of our tax dollars to these bankrupt crooks instead of taking over all private utilities by eminent domain and establishing public power in California, thereby going a long way toward solving our budget crisis and making our gas and electric bill much cheaper. In addition to checking their press releases weekly, you should read their excellent analysis of the whole contrived energy crisis, "Hoax: How Deregulation Let the Power Industry Steal $71 Billion from California" at:

http://www.ftcr.org/utilities/rp/rp002193.pdf

The other major expense in the California budget is the prison-concentration camp system and the death penalty. The elimination of both would certainly solve our budget problems and put the priorities where they belong, namely with schools, not prisons; people, not profits.

For more on the profound waste of the current, much less proposed expanded prison-concentration camp system, see http://www.criticalresistance.org and

the California Prison Politics section of the website of the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice at:

http://www.cjcj.org/cpp/index.php

While some claim Gov Davis has tossed some crumbs to the workingclass, his promotion of insurance companies, private utility companies, the death penalty and the prison-concentration camp system are so outrageous and anti-labor that it is insulting that anyone who claims to represent labor would even think of promoting this outright fascist, Gray Davis.

The glorious Recall Gray Davis campaign is heating up as the August 9 deadline approaches for becoming an official candidate for governor on the recall ballot. Websites to watch are:

(1) Rough and Tumble-Daily News articles at:

http://www.rtumble.com

(2) California Voter Foundation at:

http://www.calvoter.org

(3) California Secretary of State at:

http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/recall.htm

The Secretary of State's Candidate Status Report has a constant update on how many people have considered running for governor, and after August 9, will have how many are actually running for governor. See:

http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/recall_cand.htm

and

http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/recall_cand_status.pdf

If you don't like the candidates, at least:

Vote Yes on the Recall of Gray Davis

Vote No on Prop 54-Ward Connerly's trash
