Transgender Readings June12 @ WeHo Bookstore

by Carolina Sunday, Jun. 01, 2003 at 4:00 PM

West Hollywood's A Different Light Bookstore will host a night of readings by Female-to-Male and Male-to-FemaleTransgender spoken word artists, as part of the City's Transgender Awareness Week.

Thursday, June 12, during West Hollywood's Official Transgender Awareness Week, 2003, A Different Light Books will host a night of Transgender Readings and Performance.

For those interested in presenting pieces- authors, poets, essayists, and performers in the transgender community, please email orgainzer Alexander Yoo privately at alextsuname@earthlink.net.

A Different Light would like to have as much advanced notice as possible of the different works and literature so as to stock them in preparation for the readings. Let's show our support for transgender contributors to art, academics, politics, history, and poetry, while supporting A Different Light, which, with this event, has renewed its commitment to the transgender community.

In response to these small wins, such as the cancellation of trans-phobic author Michael Bailey's scheduled reading at A Different Light, the transgender community decided to have an event to celebrate its diversity and wellspring of creativity and genius, rather than solely focusing on those who wish it harm, and hence, the ADL Transgender Performance Night was born.

This Transgender Readings falls during during the official City of West Hollywood's Transgender Awareness Week (June 9-15), as a pre-celebration for Trans-Unity, the largest transgender pride celebration in the nation (evening of June 14, all day June 15). [see LA-IMC Center Column].
