Female to Male Trans-activist Alexander Woo explains:
" As many of you know, Michael Bailey is making a presentation on June 2 at UCLA, at noon, in Haines 352. Mr. Bailey, who penned _"The Man Who Would Be Queen"_, holds quite a few controversial and detrimental views about gay men, transgender women, and bisexual men and women (and less explicitly, men and women in general e.g., archetypes of gender roles).
" We would like to cram as many as possible Trans/gay/bisexual/feminist/polyamorous/alternatively-gendered/"extra-sexual"/queer-friendly people in the lecture room where he is scheduled to speak. This affects ALL OF US, men, women, others in between, feminists, bisexuals, communities of faith, atheists, poly folks, queer, kinky, and questioning, both directly and indirectly.
"Additionally, on the same day in the same building (room TBA), you have the opportunity to attend an empowering late afternoon of queer performance and readings at 5 PM, called TRANS-ACTION. Talia Bettcher will be presenting a performance piece, and other trans artists will present music, readings, and performance art. A brilliant way to express and revel in positive spiritual energy rather than wallowing in the negativity of Mr. Bailey's views, don't you think?
"Also, keep in mind the upcoming transgender themed readings and performance night at A Different Light bookstore in West Hollywood. I'm in the process of finalizing the date and time with Kurt, the West Hollywood ADL manager. Please consider bringing your pieces (open-mic). As many of you know, Mr. Bailey had been scheduled to appear at ADL, but after I sent Kurt several messages explaining Mr. Bailey's work and how offensive such an appearance would be (in a community space no less), including links and articles from Lynn Conway and others, he at first did not think to cancel the event, but then after more persuasion, he graciously agreed to cancel Mr. Bailey's appearance. Thank you, Kurt. In response to these small wins, Jake Hale suggested that we have an event to celebrate the transgender community, rather than solely focusing on those who wish it harm, and hence, the ADL Transgender Performance Night was born. I am hoping we can have it scheduled during the official City of West Hollywood's Transgender Awareness Week (June 9-15), as a pre-celebration for Trans-Unity, the largest transgender pride celebration in the nation (evening of June 14, all day June 15 ) [at the Village, 1125 N. McCadden Pl,i n .Hollywood].
Any questions? Please contact me. Thank you.

Bailey, the Man Who Would Be WRONG...
J. Michael Bailey, a psychologist from Northwestern University, claims to
base his work on scientific evidence, but examine some of the claims in his
recent work, The Man Who Would Be Queen:
The effeminate stereotypes of gay men are true. One can identify gay
men by their feminine voice patterns and cross-gender behavior during
childhood.
Bisexuality in men doesn't exist. Bisexual men are either confused or
lying. But all women are innately bisexual.
He "classifies" transgender women (MTFs) into two categories: those
who are really gay men, or straight men.
Bailey's classification scheme implies that transwomen who are
heterosexual make more "authentic" females than other transwomen.
