Class Action Lawsuit: D2KLA-Rage Against The Machine Concert, August 2000

by DNC Litigation Team Sunday, May. 18, 2003 at 4:29 PM
staff@d2kclassaction.org (213) 381-3299

Seeking plaintiffs who fit the description of the class described at d2kclassaction.org. Class-action lawsuit against the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for force used during the Democratic National Convention, on August 14, 2000, after the Rage Against the Machine concert. Sign up before the end of June!

Dear Friends:

This is Terry Burke, aka elbop...

The message below is from Cynthia Anderson-Barker with the National Lawyers Guild.

I have been asked to make the website referred to below (http://d2kclassaction.org) and to get as many folks with activist websites to link to the site as I can. Please forward this message to anyone who may also be able to help!

This lawsuit will send a message to the forces of repression that their attacks against our movement will not be without a price. Please help us to let the people who may be eligible to participate in this suit know how to do that. There is a short time for this work to be done, so please don't hesitate to put a link to http://d2kclassaction.org on your site soon!

thanks,

peace and justice,

elbop

I am a civil rights attorney and I work with the National Lawyers Guild. I am trying to contact individuals who were outside the Democratic National Convention at the protests on Monday, August 14, 2000. The police fired rubber bullets and hit people with batons after shutting down the Rage Against the Machine concert. A group of attorneys have a civl rights lawsuit against the Los Angeles Police Department for the way protesters were treated. We are looking for potential plaiintiffs for this litigation which was filed for civil rights violations, First Amendment violations and excessive force.

We are looking for individuals who were near the "protest pit" or public demonstration area on August 14, 2000. As you know, on August 14, 2000, many thousands of participants lawfully gathered in a public demonstration area (a parking lot bordered by Olympic Blvd. and Figueora Street and police barricades) adjacent to Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. The plaintiffs and the class we seek to represent were peaceful participants, including peaceful protesters, members of the media, delegates, legal observers and others, who were injured or harmed by the police after the LAPD declared an unlawful assembly, then shot people with rubber bullets, projectiles, hit them with batons and otherwise used force against them.

Please see our website for more information on the lawsuit and to contact us.www.d2kclassaction.org.
