Iraq Body Counter

by Simple Simon Wednesday, Apr. 30, 2003 at 7:23 PM

The Iraq Body Counter is bogus.

What's up with our good old Iraq Body Counter?

Yesterday (28 APR 03) it stood at a max of 2500 dead.

Today it stands at 2600.

One hundred Iraqis died as a result of Coalition activities just today? Really?

I've only heard of 13.

But I guess if you call what happened in Jenin a "holocaust" or a "massacre" well 13 probably looks close enough to 100.

It just shows...

by Hardcore Lefty Wednesday, Apr. 30, 2003 at 7:30 PM

...how simple you really are. In a country the size of Iraq, how many old people, sick people and such die every day? That's where the Iraqi Body Counter comes from. Really, it's too, too simple.

Simple

by Simple Simon Wednesday, Apr. 30, 2003 at 7:31 PM

Sorry, I am too stupid to figure that out.

Simple

by Simple Simon Wednesday, Apr. 30, 2003 at 7:33 PM

So.... Old people dying of old age is the Coalition's fault?

Gotcha.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Cluster Bombs

by M.T. Wednesday, Apr. 30, 2003 at 7:49 PM

Unexploded cluster bombs are killing Iraqi civillians every day, especially children. The hospitals are still full and receive new casualties every day, some of them die as a result of there injuries. Yes of course the body count continues to rise. While there is no rationing of ignorance in this country, there is no rationing of innocent civilian deaths abroad.

excellent

Didn't Saddam Kill Anyone

by Fantasy Land Wednesday, Apr. 30, 2003 at 8:06 PM

You people are so AntiAmerican that you never mention the horror that the Iraqi people lived under when Saddam was in control. Look at it this way. if they would have held those protests in Iraq before we killed the Iraqi Regime then you would be seeing a Holocaust. I know you're upset that Saddam is dead and you no longer have a fearless role model to look up to, but you have to come out of your fantasy and realize that we, the USA, are good and Saddam's Regime was Evil. In this battle evil has been defeated. One more thing, who doesn't want to end the UN sanctions now and why? Or did the "evil" corporate media make all of that up? I think I saw the French president saying that on C-Span. What does it matter, you woudn't believe it unless you heard it from Al-jazeera or the Iraqi Information minister.

No Argument From You Guys

When you resort to only name calling, then you reveal that you really don't have an argument to back up your position. Just admit you are a loser and try to trust the corporate media because you obviously only hold that position because of a lack of information. By the way, we supported Saddam during that time because of Iran or didn't you think that was important?

Why don't you do something to help out instead trying to create problems, everyone is laughing at you on here. You have been my comic relief for the last two weeks. I come home from a hard days work at the office, kiss the wife hello and then retreat into my den to have a beer and relax for an hour. This is when I get to laugh at you everyday. Iraqi Body Count website may sort a few things out.

Some think it's too low other think it's too high --- one things for certain you won't get a straight answer from your goverment.

Seems accurate to me

by Ogma Thursday, May. 01, 2003 at 3:35 AM

I've been checking the Iraq Body Count site and counter since it was launched. I've made two observations about it: 1) It often takes hours or even days to post additional deaths (this is because facts must be checked, re-checked and then checked again (from what I've read)), 2) Often the numbers posted to the site have been far more conservative than those posted by Reuters or AP or other news sources. I think the counter is about as accurate as it can be from this end and I applaud their efforts.

On the ground, in Iraq, imagine how difficult it must be determining how many have died from an exploded bomb when all you can find are tiny bits and pieces scattered over several meters...

So the body count went up to 2615 today.

That's 15 more than yesterday.

Now, there were 13 confirmed deaths yesterday, and two more today, so I guess that accounts for the 15.

But why did it jump by 100 yesterday?

Curious.

The photo still has bombs dropping from the stealth. That ended almost 3 weeks ago. We were also told that the number that would be killed during the war would approach if not exceed 500,000. Someone needs to accelerate the counter or it's going to take years and years to get there. Can't let something like the truth stand in the way of what was predicted, you know.

There's a typical conservative for ya. If children throw stones, they get the death penalty.

Simple

by Simple Simon Thursday, May. 01, 2003 at 6:32 PM

Children can throw stones to their hearts' content.

If you decide to throw stones with the intention of injuring or killing an American soldier, you can expect that they will respond in a manner which will discourage such behavior.

And I don't see any children in the photographs here:

http://www.la.indymedia.org/news/2003/04/54744_comment.php#54917

Teens? Yes. Young and old men? Yes. Children? Nope.

Death to Iraqi children!

by CONSERVATIVES ARE MORONS Thursday, May. 01, 2003 at 6:36 PM

Wow. I didn't know that a stone thrown by a mere child from 50 yards away could kill someone. Besides the laws of physics, what other laws are you rewriting?

Simple

by Simple Simon Thursday, May. 01, 2003 at 6:50 PM

First point:

I challenge you to find me a 'child' throwing a stone in any of the four photographs.

Second point:

Yes, even a child can kill someone with a stone. This is not against the law of pysics nor any other natural law.

But you miss the point. A mob which takes to throwing stones is a terrifying thing. The anonymity afforded by the crowd encourages more and more violent behavior once violence begins. A single soldier would not be hit by a 'child' with a single stone. Instead, dozens or hundreds of projectiles - of all sizes and thrown by people of all ages - rain down on the soldiers. If a driver panics, and a passenger in the back of a HMMWV were to fall out and be stunned, what do you think the crowd would do to him?

The answer to the question is that they would tear him limb from limb. Hence his use of deadly force to disperse the stone-throwers is justified.

These provocateurs throw stones because that's all they have. But maybe that's not all they have. Yesterday medical personnel who attempted to attend to the wounded were shot at. Today a number of assualt weapons were recovered.

I'm turning in my grave, Simon.

Simple

by Simple Simon Thursday, May. 01, 2003 at 7:13 PM

So, Sir Isaac, you believe that a stone is incapable of injuring a human being? Fascinating.

And you were widely considered the most brilliant mathematical mind. Such a shame.

Stoning is still used as a method of capital punishment in some charming Islamic countries. The Roman Empire was once threatened by Hannibal's Carthaginians who once employed a number of mercinaries from the Balearic Islands. These men were experts in the use of the sling. With these stone-throwing implements they killed many men.

Oh, and there's always that story about David and Goliath.

Simon

by Newton Thursday, May. 01, 2003 at 7:18 PM

"So, Sir Isaac, you believe that a stone is incapable of injuring a human being?"

Not when it is thrown by a child over 50 yards away. Please read more, son.

Simple

by Simple Simon Thursday, May. 01, 2003 at 7:24 PM

My dear Sir Isaac, I have repeatedly dispelled the myth of these 'children'. There are no 'children' in the pictures - perhaps you could point one out to me.

Furthermore, as I have already explained, it wouldn't be the case of a single child throwing a single stone, but rather a number of people throwing stones and other objects of all sizes.

I'm surprised you would criticize me for not reading enough, when I laid out these exact points above and you seem not to have seen them.

I guess being dead for 275 years will take it's toll on your intellectual faculties.

Body count

by Marconi Thursday, May. 01, 2003 at 9:09 PM

The methodology is quite well documented on their web site.

Iraq is not the United States. They have had a bit of a problem with their communications infrastructure, as it all got blown up. (It was on TV.) Presumably, it takes a long time to get good info out of some of the more isolated bomb zones. You can't call around on your cell phone to see who died in every hospital in the country last night.

Hmmm

by fresca Friday, May. 02, 2003 at 2:48 AM

Another busy day. Almost 60 Iraqis dropped today according to the infallible and surely trustworthy counter.

By the way, when does the count end? Does it just go on counting deaths ad infinitum and laying the blame at our door?

Just wondering.

Simple

by Simple Simon Friday, May. 02, 2003 at 2:21 PM

Do deaths in traffic accidents count towards the total?

Or murders committed by one Iraqi against another?

You are saying that the comminication network is to blame for delays in the death count? How does that work? Is there an Iraq Death Count central office in Iraq? Do they utilize couriers to count the dead? Do they verify the claims? It's all rather curious.

And you guys are WAAAAYYYYY short of half a million. You're going to need an earthquake or a flood. Of course those naturally-occuring phenomena are the fault of the US as well.

I'm starting to stink a bit

by Ronald Reagan Friday, May. 02, 2003 at 2:23 PM

Simon, please change my diaper.

Still at it

by fresca Wednesday, May. 07, 2003 at 8:48 PM

What's going on with this thing.

It's shot up again for no apparent reason.

here's the deal.

Obviously this counter is utterly bogus.

No one disagrees with that. (At least no sensible person does).

That being the case, it's fair to assume that the total is over inflated in order to push the agenda of the counter's authors. It behooves them to have a HIGH count. After all. They'd love to see thousands and thousands killed since then they wouldn't have so mush mud on their faces.

Conclusion. The counter's total needs to be reduced by , oh, a factor of 4 or 5. That's a fair assessment of the amount of lying and misinformation that goes into this site. SO. 2700/5 = 540 dead.

540!

There are so many conservatives at this site who have formed false preconceptions regarding what liberals believe. Like Don Quixote, they take this false foundation and build their own strawman whom they valiantly fight against in their imaginary battle. Well, no more. I’m the embodiment of everything they wrongly believe and am here to lend credence and to confirm all their preconceived and unfounded presumptions. I am…….

Hey, what's up with the body counter?

It's been stuck on 2706 for two days now.

Did no one die in Iraq in the last two days? I thought we were going to see famine, pestilence, you know, the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

I thought we were committing Genocide. Where's Robert Fisk these days?

Quick, somebody shoot an Iraqi. I want to see if this counter is stuck or something.

Simple Simon

by George W. Bush Friday, May. 09, 2003 at 1:58 PM

Okay! How many do you want dead? We'll make it look like an accident.

Simple

by Simple Simon Saturday, May. 10, 2003 at 5:54 PM

Hey, it's still stuck on 2706.

Somebody tap on the glass. Or rock it. But be careful, don't tilt it.

Simple Simon

by George W. Bush Saturday, May. 10, 2003 at 5:55 PM

Alright, Simon. We'll just shoot some more Iraqi protestors.

I figured it out

by fresca Saturday, May. 10, 2003 at 7:24 PM

I got in touch with the people at iraqbodycount.net who put this thing up and they cleared it all up for me.

First of all they admit that the MAX number is probably quite substantially inflated.

But the real kicker is that they said the total reflects ALL deaths of civilians in Iraq AND Afganistan AND "palestine" and for some reason San Francisco as well.

Alot of these deaths were the result of US military actions but they say they also count deaths of people who "probably" would have someday died in a war with the US.

Evidently it's a pretty sophisticated formula but now I feel much better about it.

WOW!

by fresca Friday, May. 16, 2003 at 12:59 PM

Amazing!

Somehow the body counter just jumped by 2000 in the last few days.

Hmmm. The site says those deaths are from "hospitals".

2000.

Still more reason to trust implicitly in the validity of this counter in particular and the anti-American crowd in general.

Good stuff!

LOL!

That's odd. When I became a member of NAMBLA, they told me that they only let neocons in.

Neocons is a code word for liberals. Neocons don't really exist. We just made it up to try and confuse the population into believing we liberals have a goddamned clue about anything. We're as dumb as fucking rocks.

Another 500 body jump!

Holy crap. Are we just mowing those Iraqis down, or what?

During the entire 5 week campaign, we only got a maximum of 2706. Now that the war's over we've been killing them at a hellacious clip.

I haven't heard anything about thousands of Iraqis gunned down by redneck, racist Amerikkkan soldiers, but then, we can't trust the thousands of reporters in Iraq to tell us the truth, now can we?

Iraq Body Counter is full of excrement.

Perhaps the idiots running it should start the "Unearthed Iraqi Atrocity Counter".

You know, an up-to-the-minute accounting of all the tens of thousands of innocents murdered by the Hussein regime that are being dug up daily.

You know, the people the Left doesn't give a fiddler's fart about.

and again

Neocon is a code word...

by Diogenes Tuesday, May. 20, 2003 at 2:55 PM

...for the Trotskyite Right.

Kristol, Horrorwitz et. al. all come from Trotskyite backgrounds.

They believe in the rule of arms only. They are anti-freedom, anti-Constitution, and are apologists for some of the worst policies to come along.

Up by 200 again!

Wow!

That must've been a hell of a traffic accident.

I didn't hear of any staged 'protests' against the United States which went awry.

Do you think these two hundred are the first batch of Iraqis to be run through our new Mattel Genocide-o-matic?

Up by another 500 today. Wow.

I tried to get a historical reference from these people, but they haven't responded to repeated e-mails.

Pad away boys. The death toll stands 4000 higher today than at the end of the conflict. But don't let a little thing like truth bother you zealots.

Iraq Body Counter: It just FEELS better than the truth.

Simple

by Simple Simon Saturday, May. 24, 2003 at 2:56 PM

On May 6th, the body count stood at 2706.

Today, May 23rd, the body count stands at 6942.

That's a jump of 4200 AFTER the fighting stopped.

The large scale fighting stopped before May 1st.

I haven't heard of 4,000 Iraqis dying reported in ANY media.

The Iraq Body Counter is a fraud. And it is a fraud brought to you by the same pack of idiotarians who drove a double-decker bus to defend Saddam Hussein.

This thing is amazing

by fresca Monday, May. 26, 2003 at 2:20 PM

It just keeps shooting up and up...with no more verification on the site.

I guess we'll be responsible for every Mid East death from now on.

Hey.

by Katalyst Monday, May. 26, 2003 at 2:26 PM

If you visit it's webpage, the thing has a noticable anti-war slant to it anyway, which by default makes it less media and more propaganda.

What I find amusing is the constant references to how "war has become a video game" by the anti-war types, then here they are with a high score counter.

Does something happen if it reaches 10k?

Oh - I know. There's a final boss fight, right?

do you idiots have jobs?!!!

you are all a bunch of sick fucks! i t scarey to think that there are people like you out there.

Of course I work. I own my own buisness and have for over a decade now. In fact, I'm getting paid at the same time I'm typing in this insult to you. Watch:

"You're a dumbass."

$$Cha-Ching!$$

I didn't notice.

They must have forgot to add Uday and Qusay to the body counter yesterday.
