A Call For Radio To FREE MOVE 9!!!
On the anniversary of Biggie Smalls death Hip Hop
radio stations nation-wide joined together to honor
the memory of this remarkable artist. I was impressed
by this example and want to see stations continue to
use their voices to highlight the lives of those who
work within the Hip Hop community. The MOVE 9
prisoners who have served 25 years for a crime they
could not have committed, have consistently set the
example of work for all forms of LIFE. They have
revolutionized themselves, as well as all those who
come into contact with them, particularly prison
populations. The MOVE 9 have inspired artists such as
Talib Kweli, the Roots, War Club, C Rayz Walz, Michael
Franti, Dead Prez, the MOVE 9's children’s hip hop
group “the Seeds of Wisdom,” and many more. It is the
duty of all radio stations and those who have access
to Hip Hop communities to use the anniversary of the
governments May 13th, 1985 attack on MOVE to honor the
MOVE 9 by sharing their history, their words, and
interviews with them or their family members on the
streets. These warriors have fought tirelessly for
the people, for LIFE, and against this rotten ass,
incarcerating, brutalizing government. The people
need to hear their voices. Despite their unjust
incarceration they have remained strong and vibrant.
Their family has remained vigilant in their fight for
the MOVE 9 on the streets. The government steadily
escalated their attacks on MOVE by engaging in a
confrontation with the MOVE family, fighting for the
release of their 9 brothers and sisters back in 1985.
This time, on top of shooting at and jailing members
of MOVE, as was done in 1978, the government dropped a
bomb on the MOVE house. This government's terrorist,
murderous bomb killed 11 MOVE people and numerous
animals and other forms of LIFE. MOVE exposed the
lengths this government will go to in trying to
silence dissent! In respect of this strong, steadfast
example, MOVE members voices need to be heard on May
13th, 2003, the 18th anniversary of the bombing.
Our honor for them can work towards a movement for
their freedom. How can we allow the prison industrial
complex to maintain their illegal and unjust prison
sentences? How can we ignore the ruthless bombing of
the MOVE family, so similar to the bombings currently
being committed against Iraqis? How can we honor our
communities without recognizing those who fight for
them? Make May 13th the day for the MOVE 9!!!
