we need to take direct action NOW!

by actavist101 Wednesday, Mar. 26, 2003 at 7:51 PM

LISTEN TO MALCOM X WHEN HE SAYS "by all means neccissary"

the anti war movement is great, but its not doing shit, peacefull protests only go so far, its time to take direct action. "they ignore peacefull protests, but they wont ignor a burning police car"

some might argue that fighting violence with violence is wrong, but we are fighting for innocent children, and innocent civilians dieing, and i dont want any violence to innocent people, just cops, and the federal building and such, we need to riot, we need to show the cops that we arent intimidated by them, we need to shut down LA, burn flags, flip polce cars... whos with me!

No Thanks

Escalating the violence will only strengthen them.

Actavist101--What are you, an agent provocateur?

Instead of getting angry and starting violence, spend some time educating yourself. Resorting to straight-up violence always leads to bad ends. At the very least, it will discredit and divide the anti-war movement. More likely, it will give the police and the local government the excuse that they need to escalate their own violence.

I attented events around the DNC in 2000, three short years ago. You may or may not remember from that time that there was a rally next to the convention that ended in some well-documented violence, not just people getting hit with batons, but tear gas, rubber bullets, and for some that were arrested, humiliating strip searches, prolonged detention, etc. etc.. A peaceful rally against police brutality around the same time also brought out tear gas and rubber bullets, and some protesters receiving some fairly serious injuries.

In the rallys I have attended so far since last fall, the police have showed remarkable restraint OVERALL. Sure you will find a handful of cops at these rallies who have indulged in violence, but if you want to respond to these incidents with more violence, then my friend, you have seen nothing yet.

They sure won't ignore a burning cop car. If violence of that level starts up at these protests, you better believe they will call in full-out riot police, the national guard, and anyone else they can find, and if you're lucky, they'll take you alive and haul you off to Camp X-Ray where you will rot for a very long time. Later the government will pass a new budget to replace the car your set on fire plus three new ones. What have you achieved then?

Learn to direct your anger in useful ways. Violence is not the answer.

Were you around Chicago in '68? If you have a moment, it would be great if you educate some of the young readers of this board about the police and rallies in those days.

Where are the people like Philip Berrigan and Daniel Ellsberg when you need them?

RIP Philip Berrigan

http://www.ellsberg.net/

Ellsberg has been at some of the protests on the east coast.
