Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore stirred the political pot with mixed results with his win for Best Documentary for "Bowling For Columbine" Sunday night at the 75th annual Academy Awards in Hollywood, Calif.
Moore received a standing ovation when his named was called for the award, but the mood changed as his acceptance speech progressed.
Moore, who invited his fellow documentary nominees onstage in a show of "solidarity," said, "We like nonfiction and we live in ficticious times. We live in a time when we have ficticious election results that elect ficticious presidents."
The crowd half-cheered and half-jeered with that remark, but turned to mostly boos as he went on: "We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for ficticious reasons, whether it's the ficticion of duct tape, or the ficticion of orange alert -- we are against this war Mr. Bush, shame on you Mr. Bush, shame on you."

The response of those who booed is shameful.
It's up to all of us, honest people who know just how evil the Bush People are to sp[eak up. Fortunetly, Michael Moore is not one of the willfully blind -- he is with us, he is a caring, cognizant person.
We all need to speak out against the inhumanity unfolding in our name (those of us who are American citizens). We can not be Germany 1939.

While I don't care much for tv, can't say i've watched more than an hour of it in the last month, i did tune into the oscars for a little while to hear what Mr. Moore had to say. Unfortunately I did miss it but accounts of how it went down are not suprising. Yes it is disgraceful of the people booing in the audience but I imagine many of them were there only for that purpose of booing down anyone who disagreed with the party line. I have yet to see this but it wouldn't surprise me at all if the booing basically laughtrack (but bootrack, ohh what a lovely concept).
Regardless, thank you Micheal Moore I look forward to seeing Bowling For Columbine.

here's some other reports : - from sfgate.com:
A standing ovation and a handful of jeers from Hollywood's elite greeted filmmaker Michael Moore when he criticized President Bush and the U.S.-led war in Iraq during his acceptance speech Sunday after winning the documentary feature Oscar for "Bowling for Columbine." "We live in fictitious times. We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elect a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man who's sending us to war for fictitious reasons, whether it's the fiction of duct tape or the fiction of orange alerts," Moore said. Applause gave way to some boos, as the orchestra began to play the filmmaker off the stage. "We are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush. Shame on you," Moore shouted, surrounded onstage by his fellow nominees in a show of solidarity. "It was so sweet backstage, the teamsters are helping Michael Moore into the trunk of his limo," host Steve Martin joked later..... Asked backstage why he made the remarks, Moore answered: "I'm an American." "Is that all?" a reporter asked. "Oh, that's a lot," Moore responded. He said the Iraqi conflict sends a negative image to the nation's youth. "What was the lesson that we taught children of Columbine this week? ... That violence is an acceptable means to resolve a conflict," Moore said backstage. Moore dismissed the jeers, telling reporters: "Don't report that there was split decision in the hall because five loud people booed." - from zap2it.com:
The reaction from the audience almost drowned out Moore's comments, with half the crowd booing and the other half clapping. The camera panned to the stunned reaction of several attendees, including best actor nominee Adrien Brody (with a very stunned looking Chad Lowe in the background), a smiling Lou Gossett Jr. and Martin Scorsese, who looked as if he were on the brink of clapping. Harrison Ford was seen smiling, while Denzel Washington looked less enthused as he thoughtfully pulled at his beard - from australia herald-tribune:
Famed US documentary maker Michael Moore used his win of an Oscar today to launch a violent attack on US President George W Bush and war in Iraq amid loud boos from the audience. "We live in fictitious times," he said when picking up the award for best documentary for his anti-gun film Bowling for Columbine. "We live in a time with fictitious election results that elect fictitious presidents. We live in a time when we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons. "We are against this war Mr Bush. Shame on you. Shame on you!," he said to loud boos from an audience of 3,500 including most of Hollywood's top stars. When he went backstage at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre to face reporters, Moore was unapologetic for his outburst. "I'm an American, and you don't leave your citizenship when you enter the doors of the Kodak Theatre. What's great about this country is that you can speak your mind," he said. He said that, far from being appalled, many people in the audience stood up to applaud him. "I say tonight I put America in a good light," he said praising the decision to push ahead with the Oscars despite the war raging in the Middle East. "I showed how vital it is to have free speech in our country and all Americans have the right to stand up for what they believe in," he said

There was a much different vibe during Moore’s acceptance of the Best Documentary Film Award on Saturday afternoon at the Independent Film Awards. He gave the same speech (I haven’t watched the Oscars but from your quotes it seems to be the same speech verbatim) and was greeted with claps and cheers from a small portion of the audience; however, there were no boos, no jeers, no hissing. But Arnold and Bruce, (Schwarzenegger and Willis respectively for the intelligently uninformed) who are always conspicuously absent from Independent events, were not there in the sweltering tent where the ceremony was held to raise their patriotic voices, so perhaps it’s not a fair comparison.

Michael Moore didn't denouce the Hitler in the White House. How old are you? Do you know your history or are you just repeating what you've heard. It is ok to have an opinion that's all your own. You don't have to join the Hollywood Band Wagon.

Michael Moore has the heart behind his convictions. The self-proclaimed artists at the ceremony should be ashamed to be in his presence. They are as bad as Nazi sympathizers, even worse since many of them are actually" against" the war...but not against it enough to be "impolite" or to allow it to inconvenience them. Michael, we are so lucky to have you, the only independent voice for the American people in film today. Those actors are shamefull. I hope they have many sleepless nights.

I've got a problem.
Things had pretty well settled down in The World's Dumbest Man competition.
Noam Chomsky had edged out Gore Vidal. Ramsey Clark had disqualified himself due to mental illness. Alan Dershowitz and Ralph Nader ran a good race but couldn't quite catch up with Chomsky or Vidal.
But now comes Michael Moore making a bid to not only enter the top five, but to displace Chomsky as the World's Dumbest Man.
Hat's off to Michael. He's making a good run at it and might pull it off. He is indeed very very dumb.

Bush admirer, I understand your right to free speech, and I welcome you to this community. Why, though, do you insist on making proclamations that you know will only enrage most people that read this website. It's out of place, it's rude, it's immature, and it only makes people on your side of this debate look even more close-minded and obtuse than we already think you are.

Michael Moore is dumber than dirt. That's a simple and factual observation. There is no intent to enrage or bait -- just observing the facts.

Fucking dumb americans
"we are defending ourselves from future attack"
hahahahah fucking dumb americans
take communism divide it by terrorism and you get uneducated middle class fucking dumbass americans and their paranoia led by old fools who have dry constipated shit that stinks like a motherfucker.
they didnt fuckin learn from vietnam. vietnam was just a civil conflict. they mistook it for a worldwide communist conspiracy. domino theory? what bullshit. communist vietnam later invaded its neighbour to put down a communist uprising.
for god's sake America
the world is not out to get you
they hate your guts for obvious and justifiable reasons but they have better things to do than bomb you: like enjoying their lives for example. also, they like to make fun of you a lot because americans are so stereotypical and predictable. heheh i always laugh when i see someone driving down the street with an american flag taped to their car holding up dumbass american signs saying "support our troops". such typical meaningless idiotic behaviour. i believe americans refer to it as "patriotism"? well in other countries, patriotism means standing up for the principles that the country is based on. also the world feels sorry for you because to be so blunt... the average jimbob american isn't very bright at all. also, even though its the 21st century, americans still live in houses made of wood.
so let me break it down for you
all you have to worry about at this point is a certain organization called al-qaeda
they actually dont have better things to do than bomb you
so leave saddam alone and go for osama and his cronies
once you get osama, if you get osama, it would probably be wise to stop funding brutal dictatorships and opposition groups (i.e. mujahideen during soviet invasion of aghanistan) all around the world. so that then people like Osama and (ok let's just say) Saddam won't, in the future, come around and bite you in your ass. then withdraw ur troops from saudi arabia.
like 7up, its "always a better choice"
oh yeah and one more thing
please, give up 60" TVs. instead, buy 52" TVs and put the money you save into your education system because really, you americans are quite fucking dumb. i haven't yet figured out if its ur mental capacity, considering most of you descended from third class peasants, or if its just your poor education system.
either way i wish you only the best america in theory, your country is based on some good ideas. why don;t u try to actually make ur country a "land of justice and beacon light of hope and peace". if you are interested in taking that path, let me know, i will be more than willing to help you morally and financially.
lastly, peace p.s. even tho i make fun of you. i still love you guys. americans are very friendly people. just that they are not very bright. hell... theyre fucking dumbasses.

I have read Michael Moore's book, "Stupid White Men", and I urge everyone to read it or at least skim through the first ten chapters and maybe the last two.... It is a great book that has a lot of facts about our "President" Bush. Moore has really done his research and has very good points on all of the issues he discusses... even about the current war with Iraq, Moore makes an intelligent statement and although it wasn't very appropriate to make that statement at the Academy Awards, it was a great shot at taking advantage of his FIRST AMENDMENT (which may become threatened in the near future if Congressmen don't read documents and proposals before they sign them.. For instance the PATRIOT Act, that infringed the American people's rights of Due Process and Search and Seizure.. and the PATRIOT ACT II, somewhat the same as the first one). Anyway, I urge people everywhere to listen up and do some research about "President" Bush.
I intend on reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich because many people have said that it just might be Bush's "how to run your government" bible. If you've taken History, you might recognize that Bush is using some of the same strategies that Hitler used when he was rising to power. And although America might not get as bad as Germany once was when Hitler was dictating, it might come down to the point where our national rights and freedoms are eroded.
I make a toast to Michael Moore. And intend on accessing more of his work.

Couldn't you have come back with a better slam? LOL...what a dork you are. When you hand out a line like you did, what the fuck did you expect?
You ARE a BOZO...a right-wing Hilter loving, anti-Freedom, Bush apologist. You little Nazi, you.
Ever been in the military...or did your Daddy get you a National Guard assignment, too?
When are you going to learn? Try having a degree in some social science...you know, subject areas that deal with people and not things like petroleum engineering.
So...what kind of profits are you making from the slaughter of the Iraqis and our American troops? You work for an independent oil company...or one of the biggies?
The blood is on the hands of people like you. The ones without a social conscience. You are so clueless...it is sad. Talk about the Ugly American. You need to open your eyes and take a long, hard look at what Bush really is. But...it seems you would rather kiss his dumb ass than learn the truth. You are clueless. It is not so much that I dislike you and your ilk, I pity you. You and Bush will rot in hell for what you have done to the innocents. Killing children in the name of oil. Shame on you both.
I fully support our troops: BRING THEM HOME ALIVE AND NOT IN BODY BAGS. If Bush and his oil buddies want that oil so much, then let that AOL National Guard traitor go over there and put his lame ass where his big right winged mouth is.
Just like Nixon...peace is near. I am old enough to remember that bullshit, are you? That line was a lie then and it is a lie now.
Hang you head in shame, Bush Admirer. It is people like you, the unimformed, who have placed that idiot in the White House. Is your child over there fighting for oil? I bet not. How about sending some of the Bushes over there: Like the drunken twins or Nicole the Coke Head? Yep, true Americans, the Bushes. They are drunken, drug ridden, power hungry, elitists who profit from the death of the innocent.
You are an embarrassment, just like Bush. It is people like you who make me wonder if they ever listened in high school government classes. I would bet you a fully behind the Second Amendment...but you have no support for the First Amendment.
Have you been on any protest line ever? Or do you just sit on your fat ass and slam those that get out and try and have their voices heard? Since the bombing started, have you gotten out on a street corner, held a sign, and tried to make you lame voice heard...or do you just sit at your computer and put down those who are really doing something about how they feel?
So get in your gas guzzling SUV today and take a sign with you and make your voice heard. You are a prime example of what is wrong with America today. It seems like any Republican politician can hand you a line of bull shit and you buy it blindly. Ever question anything, BA? If you buy the Bush war hawk line so much, just tell us how many hours you have spent in the last week out on a street corner, carrying a sign voicing your opinion.

I have to tell you, I'll never watch another Michael Moore movie again, but it's got nothing to do with his political leanings.
It's because his movies fucking suck. He's a shit ass director and is only famous BECAUSE of his outlandish political statements.
As far as those political statements go; I don't put any stock in them whatsoever. I enjoy having a verbal fight with those in the left wing who know what they're talking about and put up a good argument. It helps me stay sharp.
But the kind of shit that Michael Moore spews is laughable and not worth response. I guess the theory is; If you don't have a legitimate statement to make, just speak as loud and fast as you can, and use the most radical statements that pop into your mind.
