I've heard rumours from a few sources that I missed out on some more interesting action whilst off in the village eating my dinner :-(
We headed down to the federal building at about 8 p.m. this evening. On our way there we noticed that hardly no one was at the corner of Wilshire and Veteran. Folks on the sidewalk let us know that people had headed down Sepulveda. We drove around and parked on Sepulveda and joined the very tail end of the crowd.
Walking up, we watched a young man being escorted by 6-7 police. There was someone who was following him down towards the car, but joined up with us as we continued to join the group. He said his friend had lagged behind and the police just jumped on him. I don't quite understand that.
As we turned onto Wilshire, we were temporarily stopped right by the off-ramp from the 405. There were two rows of police officers. Each row of police had their backs to each other. Once we witnessed one person cross between the two rows, we asked the police again if we could cross to join the group. One police officer said we could cross - but hurry. So we crossed, but I was nervous as we walked to the backs of the other row. While the police officer kept yelling out: people coming through - watch out - Made me a bit nervous.
But, we didn't quite know what we were walking into. The group we joined was blocked in on all four sides by police officers. The group was just stuck many yards from the Wilshire/Veteran intersection. We couldn't move. There was about 300-400 of us. Come to find out, the police held us there waiting to hear back from their commander.
Eventually, we were "allowed" to continue our march.
