STUDENTS FOR PEACE

TODAY: Wednesday, March 19, 2003 12pm- 2pm

WHAT HAPPENED: “PEDESTRIAN TALK”

Members of the Art Center community gathered today in old town, Colorado & Fair Oaks to protest against the current war situation. Individuals wearing white t-shirts with letters spelled out the slogan “WHY WAR?” and walked at intersections at the pedestrian signal. Some of them handed out flyers to traffic and cars that stopped at red lights. This ingenious way of showing our concern was highly appreciated and welcomed by locals and passers-by. Pasadena Weekly was on hand to cover this and the police were also supportive of this highly organized and non-violent means of protesting.

(Photograph will follow up shortly)

WHAT NEXT: We plan to continue the “Pedestrian Talk” on a daily basis from 12-2 pm daily. With the assured support from Caltech and hopefully from other schools and colleges around soon, we plan to cover more intersections in a similar way.

Anyone who’s interested in joining the “Pedestrian Talk” for the coming days, please email: accd_protest_scheduler@yahoo.com

If anyone’s interested in helping out in any way on any of the days, please let us know. We need:

Taking responsibility for each day so that things move smoothly out there

Preparing new flyers with slogans based on the latest news update each night for the next day

We would like to maintain a peaceful attitude of thank you’s and smiles even at the slightest of provocations and encourage positive thinking in any way. We will also have a STATEMENT that explains what we stand for so that it can be used to answer any questions from the press and ensure a unified opinion.

Thanks a lot to all to all those who made this possible and successful!
